So um, hi to the bazillion of us that are running next weekend in DC.
How's everyone feeling? Excited for last long runs this weekend? Pumped about the forecast which I will not describe for fear of jinxing it? Annoyed at Competitor's lack of thorough organization?
Anyone want to meet up for coffee/green beer/etc? I will be at the race festival after the half, waiting for my BFF (Mr. Hot Chocolate) to finish his full (and hopefully BQ!).
Anyone? Bueller?
Re: RnR USA Ladies....
let us never speak of the weather again.
while you are asking questions I want to know what corral everyone is in and what their predicted finish time was?
I'm going back and forth on whether to ask for a faster corral, but I'm not sure my goal time is faster enought than my predicted time to get a new corral. kwim? (I'm in 5. Predicted time was 1:50)
I feel tired and ready to taper. I am nervous that I am not going to meet my goal and that it will be a struggle to even PR.
I'm annoyed at competitor for distributing the road closure notices yesterday, when it was super windy, causing a lot of litter.
I am down for pre/post race dining, drinking, whatevs. no irish bar hopping for me though. I'm old now. I like to sit down.
Hey!
I'm feeling good but definitely nervous. I did my longest run of 12 miles last week and will be doing 10 miles tomorrow.
I'm meeting DH and DS afterwards but I would be up for meeting up. I'm not sure how long we'll stay. Since we have to be home around 12:30 for DS naptime.
I picked a finish time of around 2 hours. I don't know what corral this is in.
How do the corrals work exactly?

Oh corral dilemma. I was originally slated to finish in 2:30. This was when I was struggling with knee issues and used last year's time. Well, my pace for 2:30 has already been BLOWN AWAY on my long runs. But is it worth trying to move up like 2-3 corrals to start like 5 minutes quicker? I have a feeling 7:30-8:30am is going to be a giant fustercluck. (FYI, I'm in corral 21. Seriously 21. So the corrals go to like 40? Where are the marathoners starting? Last year's Providence 2:30 was in corral 11. TEN BACK. Oofies. Right now I'm predicting a 2:1x finish for me- not saying the x because it's my secret don't-say-it-because-it'll-make-it-real-and-real-is-scary number).
My legs started to feel it this week. I got through my 5mi run yesterday and I was like "THANK FSCK THOSE ARE OVER WITH". The mental game is driving me bananas right now. I've spent a few nights lying on the floor already.
Competitor is getting too big for its britches, methinks. Take a look at the FB page. They only respond to positive feedback, haven't really addressed concerns, and changed crap around very last minute much to everyone's dismay. Had I not already signed up for RnR VA Beach in Sept, this would be my last RnR race.
I will totally sit down with you ebeth! DH threw his back out today too so he'll also be thankful to sit and drink somewhere. Speaking of which, do you know of any good spots (being the DC denizen?)
Have you done your final confirmation yet? Go to the USA website and click on confirm your registration, and print out the sheet. You'll get your bib number and corral assignment.
This is a "wave start" race, so they let out a corral or two at a time, wait a minute or two, and then send out more. Allegedly this helps everyone find their own groove faster and aren't tripping all over each other, but let's face it. 30,000 runners. On DC streets. Yeppers.
I am bumming that my race bib number does not contain any threes. All of my previous bibs had 3s. Superstition be damned.
girl, you need to request a corral move at the expo! you're going to be much faster than 2 hours.
basically they line you up by predicted finish and do a wave start so that it's not super crowded on the course and you are running with people who are about the same pace as you. being too far back can really eff with you if you are shooting for a time and need to start hitting a pace right away.
if you look at your waiver/race confirmation it says which corral you are in and what your predicted finish time is (there was a link in the email sent out this week). I'm trying to figure out how big the corrals (i.e. 5 minutes, 10 mintes) are and if I"m right at the front of a corral, I'll request a switch.
OH HOW AWESOME AM I (not really, but I know teh Googles)

(yeah. Definitely switching up)
it's not just starting faster, it's being able to hit goal pace right away. depends on how important that is to you? it sounds like you'll have a huge PR regardless. also that the corrals are kind of small (in terms of range of predicted finish) so I'll probably be cool staying in 5.
I think the marathoners are just mixed in with everyone else by pace/mi.
where are you staying again? (like neighborhood, not address)
RnR Providence had about 7000 registered runners and 5000something show up and complete the race. To use it as a comparison, I was in corral 4 at RnR Providence with a 1:55 predicted time (I already had ran faster but added some time because it was the summer). I finished a wee bit under 1:46. The 1:45 pace team was in my corral, and I think it was the right starting corral for me.
RnR races with half and full marathons use one set of corrals for everyone. At RnR Mardi Gras, I was in corral 10 (out of about 35-40 corrals, 16,000 total runners in both races) with a predicted full time of 4:15. Well, I ran 3:55 and I still think it was the right corral.
I would definitely move up to a faster corral if there is a large discrepancy between your predicted time and what you think you can run now. It's really not a big deal. Corral switches is one thing that RnR does well, and easily.
I don't like hearing about all of these Competitor issues. I am glad I picked another spring race. Maybe next year, depending on how this year's race goes.

I hate you very much
wow. it's like corral 5 was like, made for me or something.
Thanks for your confidence and the advice. I just confirmed my registration. I'll see about changing my coral. Do they do them by 5 minute increments?

the increments depend on the number of people in each corral.
aren't you the one who ran like 12 miles in 1:45 last weekend? I might be confusing you with someone else. 12 miles in 1:45 translates to about 1:55 for a half if you maintain the same pace. add some adrenaline, rest, a nice dinner, I think you can go under 1:50.
actually, I think you could probably go under 1:45, but I don't think you know that yet (and prob haven't practiced that), so I wouldn't advise you to try that. unless I"m confusing you with someone else. then disregard entirely.
Yep, that's me. Under 1:50 would be awesome!

Eh, I'm not feeling great about this race. My training has seriously sucked arse. I have not been motivated to run at all, so I've been doing the bare minimum to get by, which doesn't bode well for race day. I was originally going to run the full, so thank God that I went down to the half, I would've been in serious trouble if I were still doing the full.
I'm running it with a friend so we're just doing it to have fun and get a little tour around DC. I think my predicted finish was like 2:10 or something like that, that's about average for me for a half. I don't know what corral I'm in.
I'm not really fond of the RnR races to be honest, but my friend asked me to do it with her, so I am. I like smaller races, personally.
Unfortunately I have to pretty much rush off after the race, we have a family birthday party that afternoon so I have to get out there. I always miss my opportunities to meet up w/ nesties
