I was reading in the "what irks you" thread about your Keurig issues. Which model do you have?
I have the Platinum and am on my 3rd machine. The first two machines, the pump was sounding bad and I was getting shorted cups and the water wasn't drawing into the machine.
My 3rd one works much better and customer service for Keurig told me to unwind a paperclip and stick it in each of the three holes where the water comes out. I'm trying to visualize it and I think it's the part that punctures the cup. If you open the top you'll see 3 metal tube type things clustered together. Put the end of the paperclip in eachone and kind of wiggle it around. It's kind of at an awkward angle. Then run just water through and you'll see the gunk that comes out.
What they told me is that when you put a cup in there, some of the grounds can back-up into those holes and cause it to be blocked, which makes it run slower and can cause it to short cups.
They also told me to descale at least every other month even if the machine doesn't tell me to descale. I use their filter system, but they said minerals can still build-up. It can wreck the pump if it builds up too much.
I've been doing those things regularly and my 3rd one has been working great for about a year now. My other two died within 6 mos.
Their customer service is great, so if you need to call them they will be very helpful. They are good about replacing machines too. The model I have had known issues with the pump so I think that was part of why they didn't hesitate to send me 2 new machines. They just made me send the cup holder back to them for the second one, not the whole machine.
Sorry that was long!
Re: ***Doglove*** regarding your Keurig
Awesome, thanks Mort. I ran some vinegar through it when I went home at lunch. I'll try to poke the holes as well. I'm not sure what the model is - I bought it at BJs.
It doesn't seem to have a problem when I put a k-cup in the machine, but when I use the refillable k-cup w/ my own grounds it is shorting the cup. Weird?
I had that problem when I used too fine of a grind in my ecobrew (similar to my K-cup). The grounds in the filter got really compacted and didn't allow water to pass through to my cup and ended up leaking out the top. Try a coarser grind.
Also, descaling takes 4 hrs. At least that's what the the directions say for the model that I have.
