How to find inspector?

The bank accepted our offer and now we need to find a home inspector. My mom told me to pay the extra money and get a home inspector that is also an engineer.  Where do I start to look for one?

I am in Virginia.

Re: How to find inspector?

  • I used Angie's List to find ours - I picked the one with the most/best reviews. There was also a $15 discount for mentioning Angie's List.
  • Our realtor recommended ours and gave us a whole list to review.

  • Our realtor gave us a list, when the time comes, to have an inspector. Make sure you do your homework first. Just because your agent gives you a list doesn't mean they are good. I researched each inspector and one of them had horrible reviews - he missed dry rot on a home that ended in thousands in repair. AND he was the more expensive of the two I was choosing between.
