Hello I am looking for motivation to lose weight.

I am a female, height 5'2"and weigh 140 lb. I have 3 kids and I am a SAHM. My goal is to lose at least 15 lb because I am overweight according to my BMI. I do not have a gym membership so I try to work out at home. I just havent for the last couple of months because it's hard for me to get motivated.

I go to school part time and my little ones are 1 yr, 3 yrs, and 6 yrs old I am very busy as you can see. I hope to meet people here who can help me by motivation and I can help them. If anyone has any special workouts or diet that you would be willing to share with me it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

  • Welcome to the board!

I'm a firm believer that until you decide that you are ready, there is nothing anyone else can say or do to motivate you.  Losing weight, and keeping it off are lifestyle changes that take a huge commitment.  You will be hard pressed to find anyone here who will promote the latest and greatest diet; eat quality, clean (not processed, not boxed) foods, practice moderation with treats (one cookie is fine, a whole batch, not so much) - depriving yourself only makes it easier to fall off the wagon.  Know that if you have one bad day, it will not derail everything you have worked for, just do better the next day.

For exercise, find something that interests you.  I'm a runner, but you will find cyclists, swimmers, crossfitters, and a myriad of other disciplines among us.  It's important that you look to what makes you happy for exercise - if you hate it, it seems like work, and you will not be able to sustain it.  If you want to try running, many people find success with the Couch to 5k program.

To start with, how about starting with going outside and playing with your kids?  Run around with them, ride bikes, go for walks...

Please hang around, post, and join the community!

  • We can give you all the "motivation speak" in the world but it won't matter until you are ready and motivated to do it for yourself. You could try sitting down and thinking up a list of all the reasons you want to lose weight/get fit...For your family, for a little black dress you want to wear, for your self esteem, because you will feel better, because you want to run a 5k or some other race...whatever your reasons might be. I will say that once you get going and seeing results, those results are a huge motivator in themselves.

As far as being busy - that doesn't matter. It makes it harder, sure...but if you really want it, you just prioritize (and sometimes make sacrifices). And if can be done. For example, I have a 3 and 5 year old, work full time and am in Grad School. Sometimes I fit in a workout in the evening, other times I have to get up at 4:30 am just to fit it in. But getting healthy is important to me, so that is a sacrifice I choose to make.

Good luck, and you can totally do it, if you just stay focused and determined!!

    imagenewbaby on the way:

This statement proves that you are motivated. A motive only means that you recognize that you stand to benefit, in some way, from a particular action. You know you have weight to lose; therefore, you have motivation.

Nobody can give you motivation, it is internal. Either you have it or you don't; you have 15 lbs of it.

I think the problem is that you are confusing motivation with action. Motivation never melted a single pound off of anyone. Only ACTION does it. Nobody can do that for you either.

Other people can inspire you, encourage you, and congratulate you; but they can't take a single step on what is YOUR JOURNEY. I'm sure everyone here will join me in encouraging you to take control of your health and pursue this goal.

YesNow good luck and best wishes!
