Sore knee- should i workout/run this week?

My knee started feeling sore this week while running, and afterwards. During my 8 mile run on Thursday, I was in pain. This is new to me.

I stopped, stretched, etc. Started reading online that I probablly have weak quads, and tight hams. I knew I should be strength training more!

I'm suppossed to do my long run, 10 miles, I'm putting it off til tomrrow. I have rested since Thursday, But I want to go to the gym to lift.

Should I stay or should I go? Also, should I try to run tomorrow?

Re: Sore knee- should i workout/run this week?

  • I know from recent, firsthand experience that it is so so so difficult to rest and take it easy, but it is also my experience that you won't make anything better by running on a bad knee.  I would give it several days, and then if it still hurts, see a doctor.  Strength training probably wouldn't hurt, but overdoing the running almost certainly would.
  • I would rest if I were you.

My knees started to get sore last week and I thought that I would take a day or two off and get back to running. The day I went out to run, I thought I could push through it and now I'm really regretting going. Both my knees are killing me and it's  been about 4-5 days of pain.  I made an appointment to see a doctor next week to make sure everything is okay.

    NO! You should not!

Knee surgery sucks. It's expensive and the recovery is long. Take care of your knees. After the first surgical procedure they'll never be the same again.
