4th 5K today

I finished my 4th 5K today with a 37:55 finish in a total downpour.  My last 5K was two weeks ago with a similar finish time (no time tag on that one), but last time I didn't walk at all, and this time I probably walked for 4-5 minutes in 60-90 second chunks from about 19 minutes on.

The last 5K was a total accomplishment for me, as I was determined not to walk at all.  Today I wasn't in the same frame of mind, and the weather did nothing to lift my spirits about race morning.

My shoes were soaked by the time I got to the first turn-around, and there was no crowd support at all.  My pace seems to always put me in a void between the runners and walkers, so without anyone in particular to chase and nobody breathing down my neck, I gave in to the temptation to take some breaks.  With energy left to burn at the end, I know I could have done better, but under the circumstances, I was happy just to have gotten out of bed at what felt like 4:15 this morning to run in the rain.  A friend was registered and slept through it altogether, so I figure I beat her, even if she is usually 3 minutes/mile faster than me.

My husband ran his first 5K today and likely due to the thin crowd and crap conditions, he won 2nd place in his age group with a 25:19 finish.

Re: 4th 5K today

  • That's awesome you got out there and did it regardless of crappy weather, and congrats to your husband!

  • That was how my Thanksgiving race was, without the rain, though. The race was so disorganized that I was in a funk before the race even started, and never recovered. Glad you stuck with it, and know that there's no where to go but up next time.
  • You go girl! Wink

I haven't run in 2 weeks (eek!) due to work, a business trip & now sickness. Hope to get back to it tomorrow night & hope I can pick back up where I left off.
