dinner issues!

So I am on a health kick- well atleast during the day while I am at work...I have a healthy lunch usually a salad with protein, fruits for snacks, some eggs or a shake for breakfast, you get the idea.   When I get home its another story-  The other day for example ( this has been happening way to offten)  I had put a pork loin with veggies in the crock pot for dinner.  My hubby calls me up and says im bringing home subs for dinner .... I LOVE THE SUBS HE GETS! he has been replacing alot of my already planned meals with take out, or something unhealthy! Im getting frustrated, and I have talked to him, but he keeps doing it.  I know I am the one that controlls what I put in my mouth, but I have NO SELF CONTROL when It comes to take out.

So my dinners are pretty much killing my diets, and being that it is at the end of the day, makes it even worse.

any ideas or suggestions?  What are some of your go to healthy dinners?

Re: dinner issues!

  • I would just plan for 1-2 takeout dinners a week if that is what DH wants and pick healthier options.  For a sub, get more veggies, mustard and go easy on the cold cuts and cheese.  Also, you can eat 1/2 with a salad on the side and bring the other half for lunch.

I would also involve your DH in meal planning.  Why does he always pick up takeout...does he not like what you are cooking?  You need to figure out why he is doing this and either plan for it weekly or find meals that you both will enjoy.  It's not fair to you if you have already planned to cook and he gets takeout.  I like Skinny Taste for some great healthy recipes but I also find a lot of inspiration on Food Network.   DH and I used to eat out a lot because I didn't have the motivation to cook.  It was a huge waste of money and not very healthy.  Now that I meal plan, we plan for dinners out (very infrequently) and he gives me input as to what he would like.  It's been really helpful and we've saved a ton of money and frustration.

That is a quick go-to meal of mine that rocks my gym socks off. It's sooo good and sooo filling! I make asparagus to go with it and am stuffed after a serving.

I also do things like make my own spaghetti sauce so I know exactly what's going into it. I use spaghetti squash instead of pasta.. it's so filling and soo low calorie.

Sundays are when I make a bunch of heart soups (mainly potato and chilies) so that we always have grab-and-go kinda dinners. It forces us to have no excuse for eating well throughout the week.

  • Why does your DH feel the need to pick up take out all the time?  Why don't you let him help meal plan so he knows that dinner is planned and he's going to like what you're cooking, so he doesn't always want to pick up dinner.

Can you try telling him that morning what's for dinner?  Or let him pick one of the things on your "menu".  That way he knows that dinner is taken care of and won't need to stop on his way home.

Also, it's ok to say "no need for take out tonight because I've already got dinner in the crock pot and it's almost done"
