Where did you have some seriously yummy eats on your travels?  Bonus points for pics.... I'm pretty flippin' hungry right now from this cleanse I'm on, so torture me :)

  • We have good eats everywhere we go!  I guess the ones that stick out in my mind are NY, Chicago, San Francisco, Hong Kong, and Brazil (churrascarias, exotic fruits, yum!).
    I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • Barcelona, Granada, NYC, San Fransisco, Paris, Charleston, D.C. come to mind. I tend to have good food where ever I travel. An open mind and the experience of trying new things is always exciting.

  • -Pesto in the Cinque Terre

    -Pizza in Naples

    -Risotto Milanese in Milan

    -Crossiants/lemon tarts in Paris

    -Paella in Spain

    -Chocolate con churros in Spain

    -Street tacos in Mexico

    -Waffles, chocolate, and frites in Belgium

    Overall, my favorite foodie destinations to date are Paris (and really anywhere in France), Italy, Spain, Las Vegas, Portland, Seattle, New York, San Francisco, and Sonoma/Napa. I think good food can be found anywhere in the world though!

    Hot Dougs! 

    1) Lamb and pork loukaniko with artichoke pesto, kalamata olives, marinated feta cheese and lemon-Dijon foam.

    2) Foie gras and Sauternes duck sausage with truffle aioli, foie gras mousse and fleur de sel.

    3) Spicy Thai chicken sausage with Thai peanut sauce and toasted coconut.

    ETA:  This is the only food picture I had available.  I could upload all the pics from my experience at Alinea, but that would take forever!

  • I'd pick everywhere I've been, lol.  I research online beforehand and ask the locals as soon as we arrive for the best places to eat.  I feel like I've only truly visited a place once I've eaten my way through it.

    If you want pics, here are a few randoms that I've really enjoyed:

    The best shrimp cocktail (the cocktail sauce was so amazing!) at St. Elmo in Indy for my Superbowl trip.  The bloody mary was pretty tasty too.

    My favorite restaurant of all time is Zuma.  I was bummed to move from London because I knew I would miss Zuma so much.  Then they opened one in Miami in 2010, and the above is their homemade chilled tofu and lobster noodles (I could eat like 5 of the lobster noodles).  I'm going to Miami soon and I want to eat at Zuma every night.

     

  • I think my favorite trip for food would have to be Turkey. I didn't have a single meal there that wasn't delightful. From the nicer restaurants serving their own original dishes to the basic Turkish standards like kebab in a clay pot all the way down to the basic g?zleme and other street foods, everything was delicious! Even the large-scale tour-bus lunch stop our guide dragged us to was good!

  • Southwest China and the Sichuan province.  Everything was hot and spicy, the way we like it.  The street food was so yummy and cheap!

    Egypt was pretty yummy too, but we both got real sick so kind of soured the experience a bit!

    The Le Cinque dish was Root Vegetables with Truffles.  I am kicking myself for not taking pictures for every course.  That roll to the right of the dish was to die for.  It was insane how perfect the all of the food was at that place.  Even the little decorations on the plate, whether it was a little plant or flower or gold foil, was perfection.

    I need to do that Rick Bayless tour the next time I'm in Chicago.  Thanks for letting me know abou it!

    MH and I were stuck at the Chicago airport this past Monday waiting for our connecting flight home but I was overjoyed when I saw his Tortas Frontera eating spot at the airport.  Talk about divine intervention.

    LOL, I know, cleanse, schmeanse.  Don't worry, it's not the starvation lemon juice one, just omitting all the crapola/calorific stuff for a week.  Today is all fruits & veggies, yum....

  • Oh, that's a good cleanse.  I may copy you, especially my gorging in Hawaii last week (moo)!
  • Hands down, France and Italy.  Two of my favourite meals are a bowl of bouillabaisse in Cassis at an outdoor terrasse overlooking the sea and the other one was a pot of steaming mussels, fresh bread with creamy butter, red wine, and great conversation in a little town in Italy just on the other side of the French border.  The waiter didn't speak English and I didn't speak Italian, so I ordered in French, and it was all good.

  • JAPAN! Hands down for me, there's nothing else like it that I have had. Curry, ramen, yakiniku, shabu-shabu, pepper lunch, various desserts, and sushi of course are among the best stuff. The food especially the desserts are not only presented beautifully but they're always very delicious. The dishes of course are quite different than here in America. They also make different cuisines like French and Italian but put their own spin to it. We ate the hole in the walls and fancy restaurants, and the food is almost always amazing. I also LOVE their themed restaurants, one we went to was called The Lock Up, it's basically a jail cell and they scared the living crap out of you. Another one is Ninja Restaurant(they have one in NY), it's basically a ninja fortress and they perform tricks right at your table! Now I'm really missing Japan and all the good food! 

     Another good one was Italy. Our best meal there was probably the bistecca fiorentina in Florence, it was a 1kg steak, the juiciest steak I've ever had and probably one of the best steaks we've ever had. Local wise, I love Vegas and LA.  

  •  Too many things to list from Spain.

    The macarons in Paris.  So far the ones I've had in the U.S. don't even compare.

    Actually, pretty much any pastry in all of the countries I've been in.

    Argentina though had some of the most amazing food ever.  Great wine, meat, pasta, pizza and delicious desserts.

  • We are also spoiled living in NYC.  So much so that we were disappointed by the food in Barcelona and felt we could find better tapas in the US.  However, here are some of mine:

    Nice and South of France.  I have been to many places in Europe with my husband.  But the South of France was one place where we felt like the food was so simple yet refreshing.  We were shared this seafood nicoise salad our first day.  I had to eat fast because it was so good, my husband was devouring it by the forkful and wasn't about to leave any to share with me!  

    Costa Rica.  I went with my girlfriends.  Everything we ate there was so delicious yet humble at the same time - from nice meals in the hotel to the basic meals provided by the tour groups.  It was a nice change in pace from NYC where things are sometimes so gourmet, it borders on pretentious.
