Cloth Diaper Moms

I think we're going to CD! The in-home daycare we're planning to send LO to accepts them. I have some questions I hope you guys don't mind me asking.

Did you CD during the newborn phase? Is it worth it?

What brands do you recommend based on your LO's body type?

What brands would you not recommend?

What sites do you recommend ordering from, especially for seconds or used?

For those of you with older LO's:

When did you start having to use doublers/ extra inserts with the diapers?

What brands do you recommend?

What is your overnight diaper routine to prevent leakage?

TIA!!!

Re: Cloth Diaper Moms

  • Yay!

We did not do newborn stage-- DH was only agreeable to the BGs so we decided to use disposables until she could fit in them... and as of right now, we only use one insert (the large one) for overnights and have not needed a doubler/ extra insert. We have a hemp one to try out.

I ordered all ours from Nell's Natural Baby and they arrived within 2 days!  We got all ours new though (again, DH was only agreeable to that).

  • Did you CD during the newborn phase? Is it worth it? we started around 6 lbs. Our NB diapers fit until 10-12 lbs, so we used them until 4-6 months. I do not think it would be all that worthwhile for most LOs (well, outside of prefolds/covers which are really economical...we had about a dozen NB pockets/AIOs as well).

What brands do you recommend based on your LO's body type? BGs are totally bulletproof (we have 4.0 and Freetime. I don't love the Elementals, but they work fine too). I really like Grovias, esp the hybrids, and Swaddlebees Simplex. They're both super trim.

What brands would you not recommend? I hated Fuzzibunz. I need to sell my Ss actually. The OS were sold almost immediately because they're hard ot adjust and the girls need different sizes in diapers.  I found Kawaiis to be too wide and hated the pocket. The Oh Katys were nice esp when they were small but I sold them because I didn't like them for overnights (and I send aplix to DC and they were snaps, so I didn't need more snaps I can't use at night)

What sites do you recommend ordering from, especially for seconds or used? You can get seconds on manufacturer sites periodically. I've bought used of TB, Hyena Cart and Diaper Swappers.  For new, I LOVE Abby's Lane (I've ordered mostly there and Cotton Babies)

For those of you with older LO's:

When did you start having to use doublers/ extra inserts with the diapers? Well, I don't think they're older persay, but we do not need anything extra during the day yet. I do prefer cotton/natural fibers when we're out though as they often wind up wearing a diaper for 4 hrs (which is kind of gross but cotton is less prone to leaks)

    What brands do you recommend?

What is your overnight diaper routine to prevent leakage?simple answer: hemp+microfiber.

    complicated answer:

I usually do a hemp + a stay dry insert (flip or these random fleece topped ones I got used) in a Flip cover for Quinn (or any pocket with a MF and a small hemp or NB microfiber), and either a Flip Organic with a microfiber NB insert in the middle in a Flip cover or a BG with a microfiber plus either a FB hemp or two NB inserts for Avery. Avery is a heavier wetter. I am entertaining trying wool with her, but so far these options have worked fine.

we did not start adding anything to nighttime diapers until they stopped pooping around the clock around 4 or 5 months, and these are new combos as of the last month when we've been getting long stretches of sleep. All have worked 12-13 hrs, knock on wood.

I was hoping to buy a bunch of used ones between Emily, and a friend of mine in CO, but DH is being SUPER weird about used CDs...we also decided to do NB disposables for the first few weeks. I have gotten good reviews all around on the BumGenius diapers, but I've also heard good things about Fuzzibunz. I am planning to do a registry at Abby Lane and do a mixture of the 2. Oh, and the Blueberries are so.freaking.cute. I will probably splurge on a few...

    they're ADORABLE.

And they're super soft and have giant pockets. Keep an eye on the baby deal sites; they have them sometimes Smile

I am anxiously awaiting our a/s with my continued premonition that this is a boy for the monkey patterned blueberry....oh em gee, I want it NOW! Great info on their usefulness as an actual diaper instead of purely overwhelming cuteness in 3 month photos...

  • Did you CD during the newborn phase? Is it worth it? yep, I think it was good to get into the swing of things

What brands do you recommend based on your LO's body type? Really we only used Mother ease Sandy's fitteds with thirsties covers  (and fleece covers my mom made) they are awesome and they are workhorse diapers

What brands would you not recommend?

What sites do you recommend ordering from, especially for seconds or used? I've had no issues with diaperswappers, but you can do spots too

For those of you with older LO's:

When did you start having to use doublers/ extra inserts with the diapers? we always had to use at least 1 doubler with Lucy, she was a super pee-er. At night time we use 2

    What brands do you recommend?

What is your overnight diaper routine to prevent leakage? Mother ease sandy + zorb insert + cotton insert + fleece cover
