Tarragona, Spain and wine/cava tours

(sorry for another Spain post); I don't think we have enough time for a trip outside of the city, we're there ~3.5 days), but H thinks we should do one.

I think we're both most interested in Tarragona and it looks like it's about a 75minute train ride on way.  How much time does one need to spend in Tarragona to see everything comfortably?  Is a wine or cava tour in the area that we could also put in the mix?

(or do you have a wine or cava tour within hour or so of Barcelona that you recommend that we could do in a few hours or so total?)

Re: Tarragona, Spain and wine/cava tours

  • Just an FYI, we're going to Tarragona while we're there, make sure you take the train that brings you to the Tarragona station (about a 10 min walk to everything) vs. the CAMP Tarragona station (that drops you 20 min outside of town) - but if you are seeing 75 min train rides then you are looking at the correct station.
We're not doing a tour when we're there, just walking around & seeing the sights on our own.
  • Just want to say that Tarragona was my favorite place; I spent the better part of a day there.  You'll love it!

Thanks for the info.  We're not looking to do a tour of Tarragona itself; we're fine exploring on our own; we are just hoping to find a wine or cava tour in that same direction that we could do after seeing Tarragona itself.

  • with 3.5 days, i would probably just stay in barcelona. our winery trip was fantastic but we had a full week. spanish trails does a day tour of the city and boqueria, i'd look into that.
