Lurker Here, Need Advice On Job Qualifications
Hey there, I normally lurk, but I have a question about job qualifications. I graduated college in December with a degree in the child development area and have not been able to find a job yet. A job opened up today at the place that I interned, but one of the qualifications is a minimum of one year working in a licensed child care facility. Now while I have not done that, I have lots of other experience working at church in 3 different children's ministry positions, one of them as a director, events for my college as a childcare supervisor, worked as a summer camp counselor, etc. Would you still apply for this job knowing that you don't exactly meet the minimum qualifications? If so, would you address this in the cover letter, and how would you do that? TIA!

How many months of experience do you have and the places where you do have this experience - were they in a licensed child care facility?
If I were in your position, I would apply. You interned there and assuming they liked you and your work, they might be willing to overlook that.
This. Definitely apply, and talk to the people you know that still work there. This is how networking works! Often, who you know can be more important than what you know in hiring situations.

When I was looking for a position immediately after graduating, everything required at least a year of experience and I had none. I still applied and had two interviews and was offered both positions. Just because it says a certain number of years doesn't mean they are 100% set on that.
