Less than a week away! Are you getting excited?
I'm pretty excited to know my race number and corral number. I'm in corral 17. Anyone else?
Also, if any of you have advice for a first time halfer, I'd love to hear it!
Re: RnR USA Ladies, Come in!
I'm ready! I feel better about the race, I got my last long run in yesterday and it was the best long run I've had in months, so that helped to boost my confidence a bit. It looks like I'm in corral 16.
As for this being your first, don't go out too fast! 13 miles is far and you don't want to get too excited at the start and then crash and burn. Other than that, just have fun and enjoy the experience, it's an automatic PR no matter what time you finish.
mostly I'm just nervous that I will not meet my goals. I had 3 runs that were awful last week that have really shaken my confidence. hopefully, it's just fatigue at coming to the end of a training cycle. . .
this week more food, more rest, less running.
I'm in corral 9, but based on some advice from ebethmsn, I'm going to try to change it to a finish time of 1:50 or 1:55.
I'm home sick today with a cold, but hopefully I'll be better by the weekend. I'm resting up hoping this allows me to get better. I'm glad this came at the beginning of the week as opposed to the end.
I did get my long run on Saturday of 10 miles at 1:26:32 before I got sick on Sunday, so I'm happy I got that in.

You're speedy, I'm super jealous
From when I started my RnR thread on Friday to now, I've run the entire range of emotions. I'm seriously on the brink of a monster PR and my brain can't fscking handle it. I will probably request to move my corral up to 18 or 17 at the expo, since my health and injury status have improved immensely since I registered.
Advice for a first time half- just take it in. It's an instant PR so you don't have that added pressure of fighting or racing yourself to be "better". Use every water station, alternate water and gatorade. Take that Gu at mile 7 or whatever is is with a bunch of water. Wear something you're used to wearing. Bodyglide, bodyglide, bodyglide, especially if it rains. Dress for 20 degrees warmer than the outside temperature- wear throwaway overgarments to the corral if you have to. Get plenty of sleep, water, and carbs this week. And most important of all, HAVE FUN. You'd better be smiling when you cross the start and finish mats!
Looking forward to it! I haven't had a really good run in MONTHS except for my 20 miler last weekend, which was nice.
I'm in corral 14 - estimated finish time of 4:15, but we'll see about that. That's an ideal day. And really, at this point, I'm just going for being able to cross the finish line and saying "that was a good run."
I'm going with a group (the No Meat Athlete training group - look for the shirts!), but I'd love to meet up with some H&F ladies before/after for a bit!
2012 RACES
3/17 - DC RnR Marathon
(5:00:24 - an ugly PR, but I'll take it)
6/30 - North Country Olympic Tri
8/5 - Branbury Classic Olympic Tri
8/26 - Half VT Journey Tri (Half Iron)
10/20 - Beach2Battleship Ironman Tri (eek!)
Old nestie, new name
That's an awesome time!
My goal time is 2:15 but I've been running my long runs at closer to 9:45 mile pace. I really need to focus on keeping a reasonable pace and not overdoing it in the excitement of it all. I fully intend to be smiling when I cross the finish line!
Thanks! Good luck everyone!

My emotions are all over the place. I had a not so great 7 mile run on Sunday, but my 12 miler the weekend before that was awesome. I realized this weekend that I haven't been training in the mornings, so now I am worried about a morning race. Both of my kids have colds so I am praying I don't get sick. And I'm disappointed in the weather. I like to race in cold weather. 40 degrees is perfect for me. Not excited about 70.
I am in coral 18, I had predicted my finish time at 2:15.
I'm a little worried about the weather myself. I too enjoy cold weather runs and bundling up. Now I need to run out and get some throw away clothes because I know it will be cold in the corrals waiting for the start, but I'll warm up along the way. Especially as the day goes on. But we can't control everything unfortunately! Just our attitudes.
Hoping you don't get sick and wishing you good luck on race day!
So..
What's everyone wearing?
Bib #s?
Who's up for some green (or not) beer afterwards?!
I don't know what I'm wearing. won't know til Friday probably. it really depends on if it's raining.
I don't want to post my bib number here.
when you say 'after' do you mean straight from bag check to bar? or later? I can do either.
the closest dining establishment is a creperie. I do not believe they have a liquor license. they do have crepes with nutella, bananas, peanut butter, and peanut butter cups.
the closest bars are not that close. one of them has a large selection absinthe though, which I think is green. though prob not the best choice for rehydration.
the closest brunch is probably either H st or barracks row. niether is very close. barracks row is more accessible via metro.
