SF Article

I read this in my Good Housekeeping and I thought I'd pass it along.

Re: SF Article

  • It's an interesting article. I like the idea of journaling your spending like you would count your calories.

I've always been very money conscientious, whereas when I met Jay money would burn a hole in his hand because it wouldn't even make it to his pocket. He's gotten a lot better with it over the years but has always been one for excessive discretionary spending. This weekend though he noticed that since he quit smoking/chewing, cut out his fast food trips ad we've been eating out less that there is a lot more money in our joint account at the end of each month...he said it made him feel really good, which in turn made me feel really good. My little husband is growing up, lol!

  • I was thinking about the daily spending limit.  I feel like if I did that then I might actually be WORSE with my spending because I'd be like... oh  I have $90 that I can spend today... hmmmm.

    Know what I mean?

I totally agree. This would SO not work for me.  We have a mmore weekly budget, which works much better because we do most of our errands/spending on the weekends, makes it much easier for us.

  • I couldn't do the daily either and I don't spend all that much money in general. My $20/week work allowance and knowing a general amount of spending money I have per month is sufficient; it allows us to save money not only for ourselves but I also have a savings account for our godson that I put $20 of each pay check into.

    I don't even know what I would spend $90 a day on?

  • My #1 thought was also $90 a day?!  That's crazy.  I mean, this coming from the person who spent $50 before she got out of bed this morning (but it was for a Living Social deal I've bought 3x and used every time)- but on your average day I don't spend $90 except on grocery days.

  • I don't know what I would spend $90 on a day (although I'm sure my rate wouldnt be that high), but I feel like if I knew that I *could* spend $90 a day, I'd be more likely to talk myself into purchases rather than out of purchases.

    This.

But it was a good article.  And I guess I can see the $90/day as an average.  I feel like I can go weeks without any major purchases, other than groceries, and then bam!  a huge expense comes along.  So frustrating.
