Anxiety and PMDD?

Does anyone have anxiety attacks?

I have recently been diagnosed with PMDD and I do get a little more than insane when I'm PMSing but this past week I had rolling waves of anxiety attacks for 6 hours straight, hyperventilating, crying, screaming, snot dripping, it was terrifying. I went to the doctor this morning to confirm my diagnosis from my psychologist and OBGYN, and it was confirmed and I was given a low dose of Xanax as needed.

Does anyone deal with PMDD also? I don't know anyone who has it, but I was wondering what else works to downgrade the symptoms. My PCP told me that there are some forms of birth control that are made specifically for PMDD, but I'm not currently on the pill any longer due to hormonal problems and cycle difficulty.

I'm looking for some advice :) Thanks in advance!

Re: Anxiety and PMDD?

  • I do have anxiety attacks and my last one lasted 10 days straight to the point my whole body hurts.  Since therapy, I only take anxiety meds on an as need basis  which is not too often and it usually does not go to the extreme end.

I also have PTSD that I have to cope with.  As for PMDD, I never heard of that and I am not sure what it stands for?

It's Pre Menstrual Dysphoric Disorder. Basically it's PMS but x100. Mood swings that are common in PMS are amplified by suicidal thoughts/tendencies, crying uncontrollably for no apparent reason, and cramps/fatique/body pain is greatly increased. It's terrible. I have anxiety attacks left and right the week before I get AF, and it's frightening. I'm on an anti-depressant for most of the symptoms but the week of PMS counteracts the anti-depressant so I was in need of an as needed anxiety med.

Thank you for your input :)
