I'll post another news story that might rile someone up

Man burns flag outside VFW, so the post commander finds him and duct tapes him to the pole.

I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.

  • This might be flameworthy, but I say, since the guy volunteered, I see no problem with it. I'm glad he learned his lesson, and glad they taught it to him and are now protecting him. If they had just done it TO him, I'd expect them to get arrested. This is why I don't fit in with modern liberals. I feel like my man HST (that's Truman, not Hunter Thompson) would have been okay with this if duct tape had been invented back then. Wait, was it?

ETA: It was invented in 1942. Or a form of it was.

  • I support flag burning, but this was a stupid reason to do so.  I don't think he should be punished, but since he volunteered, and it wasn't legal punishment, I guess I'm not upset at it.

I'm mostly upset that the dumbass reporter said passer-bys.

  • I wonder how bad his other options were that he chose to be duct taped to a flag pole instead...

  • Sibil, I don't think it should be illegal, but I wouldn't say I support it. When OWS burned flags, it hurt their message. Though a ban on flag burning would be unconstitutional, I think it's generally an immature and imprudent behavior, and I generally abhor it. And this dude wasn't making any statement beyond being angry about no booze.

I will say that I love the Constitution more than the flag and always remind myself that it's better to burn the flag and wrap yourself in the Constitution than to burn the Constitution and wrap yourself in the flag.
