I'd be crazy not to accept this right? (jogging stroller)

We are in the market for a double jogger.  We didn't think a BOB was in the budget so I was going to get a Baby Trend Expedition (~200 - which is exactly what we had budgeted for a new stroller).  Then I found a used BOB on Craigslist (400) and can go look at it tomorrow but was still on the fence about spending the extra money.  My mom just told me she'd give us $200 to cover the difference in just buying a new BOB but that still means we're spending $400 and $200 more than we originally planned.  Ughhhh...I'm really bad at making decisions.

  • Don't let your mom push you into spending twice what you've budgeted!

If she's willing to give you $200, why not take that and the $200 you've budgeted and go for the used Bob?  Why would she be against a used stroller if it is in great shape?

  • That's a lot for a used bob.  I'd try to get the seller to go down

There is a very long and ridiculous answer to this question.  But, let's just say you'd have to know her Indifferent

She will give us money toward the new one but not the used one.  So I can try to get the seller to come down.  But if she doesn't, in order to get the BOB, I will be basically spending $200 for either a new or a used one.  (We have been gifted $200 from someone else that is earmarked toward a stroller).

  • not to encourage stretching the truth but would your mom know if you bought used?

as a previous BOB owner, i can say nothing but good things about them.  It was our go everywhere stroller.  we used it for the mall, the zoo, running, etc.

i will say this though, running with a stroller is no fun.  have you tried it?  If you haven't i would recommend trying it first with a borrowed stroller to see if it's even something you think you will do on a regular basis.  If so, i would splurge and get the BOB.  you were going to spend the $200 anyway, and i just sold mine on craigslist (after having it for nearly 3 years) for $200 so you make your money back.

*EDITED*  i just reread your post. i thought the new one was $400 total and that she was giving you $200 toward getting it if you got new.  If you have to spend $400 out of pocket i would probably skip.  my kids were not interested in being in the stroller much past age 2.5

Do you have any recommendations on a fair price?  I've done a bit of research and have found 1 that sold this weekend about an hour from me for $350.  So I'm thinking I'll offer that.

thanks for the input.  I currently run once a week with both kids and then also take a Stroller Strides class with both kids once a week.  We'd also be selling our other double so this would be our only double - so anywhere we'd take a double, this would be it.  I've been borrowing a friend's bike trailer that converts to a stroller - but my lovely children who usually get along so well bug each other non-stop in the trailer.  There is no "wall" between the 2 seats so they get on each other's nerves quickly.  My almost 3yo actually still loves stroller rides and loves going on runs with me so I've found a running group that is a Moms group that would add another run to my week where I'd have both kids.

  • I got my bob duallie new for $450.  There's no way I'd pay more than 300 for one and it would have to be in excellent condition.

Sorry, I'm looking specifically for a Revolution.  The lowest I've seen them new is $560.

  • I'd get a new Sport Ute for under $450 instead of a used Revolution for $400

But those are fixed front wheel right?  This will be the only double stroller we have so I was thinking the swivel front wheel would be much better for the zoo, museum, etc.

The swivel in the front is amazing.

Robin - you got a new revolution for $450?  What's your secret? Smile  So far, cheapest I've found is $560

yes, it is fixed.  But do you have a single umbrella stroller you use?  I've found with my two (2008 & 2010) the 3.5 and year old would much rather walk now than ride in the stroller.

And I have to say that I've not really pushed a double BOB except around REI but they're such a behemoth of a vehicle, I'm not sure how much of a difference the fixed vs swivel would be.

Regardless of your choice though, I think spending $400 of your own money on a used BOB isn't the best choice right now.

I called around to local bike shops that sell them and got quotes.

And the swivel wheel makes going through small doors easy.  it really is the most maneuverable stroller I've driven
