Would you sign up? 10k

I've been a lurker for a while and decided to come out of lurking with a question :-)

I had done the C25K a few summers ago but then the race was, in my mind, a fail. I didn't do very well but was glad I finished. I started doing it again earlier this year and then found a C210K that I started. It's a 13 week program and I'm on week 7, day 2.

I was looking to see if there was a race near when I finish and I found a race that will be when I'm at week 10 or 11. I really want to sign up but can't decide. There's a time limit of 1 hr. 30 minutes and at this point I can do 6 k in about 45 minutes (alternating between jogging and walking).

Would you sign up? Or wait for a different race later on?

Re: Would you sign up? 10k

  • When do you have to sign up by?  Can you wait another 2 weeks and see how you feel about it then?  When I first started running and decided I wanted to run the Boston half, I told myself if I could run 7 miles by July that I KNEW I could train for the next few months to get up to the 13 miles.  So maybe see how you feel in a few weeks and if you feel like you are on target than you should sign up!
  • I think the deadline to sign up is April 15th but on the website they now have something saying to sign up quick because there aren't many spots left. The 10k is at the same time as the marathon so I'm not sure if they're mainly talking about the marathon or both races.
  • I'm a little confused - how many weeks do you have until the race?

  • The race is on April 22nd. There's a week and two weekends where I'll be traveling and unable to run. If I stick with my running plan I should be able to get to week 11 by the time of the race.

Personally, I'd do it.  That's 5 weeks to build up 4km which, to me, would be doable.  You just need to be careful in how fast you build to avoid injury.  Also, when you're traveling can you not run at all?  Even the treadmill of a hotel just to keep up the momentum?  Good luck with whatever you decide!
