DS and I are going to Grenoble, France soon with my husband while he has a conference (and we'll have a day with DH to tour Paris as well).
Any advice on international travel with a 12 month old? What is the best way to deal with the time change? We were thinking that we should try to sleep as much as we can the way there (at night), then nap on the train to Grenoble and stay up the rest of the day. However, our flight back leaves during the day and arrives during the day, so I'm not quite sure how to deal with that.
I'm also wondering if anyone has advice for keeping him entertained during downtime. I did get him a few new toys and some snacks. He is not walking yet (although he's a very strong crawler) and still takes 2 naps, so that might make things a little harder for us. I don't know if Grenoble has places for kids to run (or crawl) around, besides parks. I want to go to the Bastille, of course, but other than that I'm flexible on what we do (I've been to France before, so I'm ok if I don't see everything).
Thanks for any help!
Re: France with 12 month old - advice?
I'm not going to lie, traveling West with kids from Europe sucks. Like really sucks. We fly often between the UK and US and it is so much easier going East. My kids fly almost the whole flight over, then generally nap again in the morning, then they are pretty good to go all day. They typically stay up later the first night, then sleep later the next day, then get back on schedule. Spend as much time as you can outside, sun is good for jet lag. We let our kids lead us in terms of sleep. Coming back they usually sleep some on the plane, then go to bed almost as soon as we are home but then wake up nice and early. We went over Christmas and came back in January and my dd was up at like 3 the first day back. It sucked. It took about 3 days to get back to normal.
