For those of you who set aside money for clothes, presents, car expenses, etc where do you put it? I'm sure you don't have 12 different accounts so do you just keep it all together but know how much is going to each?
Re: Budget question
I don't do this but I know tons of people that swear by the envelope method.
This doesn't work though if you're like me and see cash and think "SPEND ALL THE CASH ON ALL THE THINGS!!!!"
This is what we do too. It all goes into one savings account but we update the spreadsheet every month with the correct amounts of each one.
We do have a separate savings account. It's technically called travel savings, but we use it to pay for other large splurges.
Gifts and things like that just come out of the normal account. We don't budget to a very precise degree.
We do the same thing. Paper $ burns a hole in my pocket, I can't be trusted.
Bingo! I use mint.com, H uses some color coded excel sheet that he makes his heart sing. But we sort of "reverse budget" in that we look back at the previous month and see where things went. We're not saving for anything in particular, so after paying down debts and bills, our leftover just goes into savings. Some of it's going to end up in the stock market soon I think. If you want it all in one giant "savings" account, then I would use a digital method to track what's going where.
Hahaha love it!
