New here with a Yoga question

Hello ladies!

Tomorrow I go to my first Yoga class. I don't know why but I'm a bit nervous. I go to Spin class and work out/run 5 times a week. For whatever silly reason I'm anxious about this.

Anyone have any tips or advice to share with me? I can't belive I have never done any yoga!

Re: New here with a Yoga question

  • Tell the instructor it's your first time and try to focus on your breathing. Yoga is so great!  Have fun!

  • I was kind of nervous when I first started going, too, and working out was not something new to me.

Just relax and enjoy the experience.  Ask questions if you are confused, don't force yourself into poses.  Some of the vinyasas take time and patience, and you don't want to hurt yourself by pushing too hard.  Don't worry about what the other people are doing around you - just do the practice for youself.

Also, wear comfy clothes (I usually wear capris and workout cami or tank top) and take a water bottle just in case you need it in the middle of class.

  • Adding on the other posters I am in agreement. Let the instructor know this is your first class as well as any injuries that you may have.

What you will need: a yoga block, a yoga strap, a mat (of course), a towel, some water and your loving spirit. Remember to have fun and learn.

I honestly do not remember my first yoga class. I think it was a combo class with Pilates that I took in college.

  • Thanks for the tips and the encouraging words! I'm just getting ready to leave and I don't feel as silly being a little nervous! I'm excited for a change in my workout routine I'm sure I will love it!
