Re: Training Tuesday

  • I've never taken part in Training Tuesday, but I could use some accountability, so here I am!

What event are you training for/date? : Mayor's Marathon (Anchorage), June 23 (my first full!)

What does your training schedule look like for the week?: get in any miles I can (injured)

    Any injuries or problems?
diagnosed with PF last week, so I'm breaking in semi-custom orthotics.  Only managed 2.5 miles on Saturday, will try for longer tonight!

Highlights from last week? first podiatrist appt./diagnosed with 1st running injury :(

What do you do in the week right before a race? Any rituals?  I pretty much go about business as usual.  I will sometimes take a look at the course map, and I'll plan out what I'm planning to wear and use for fuel.

What is your favorite pre-race/event dinner? Most of my races have been with TNT and we always have a pasta party/inspiration dinner the night before the race.  How about breakfast the morning of the race?  No breakfast for me, usually.  I'll have a GU at the start line, or else half a granola bar (honey and oat crunchy kind). Favorite post-race meal?  I'll eat anything!  Recent highlights have been clam chowder in a bread bowl (after Nike), and German pancake with sausage links (after my most recent race).

Bonus points: I just got a smartphone (Like a Garmin, I resisted for a while, and already wonder what took so long). Any recommendations for Android apps?  Non-H&F related - Shazam, DrawSomething, IMDB, Words with Friends/Hanging with Friends are all favorites at our house.

  • What event are you training for/date? DC RNR Half Marathon, this weekend!

What does your training schedule look like for the week? Tues - maybe 3M (depending on how I feel), Wed - 2M, Thurs- 2M (maybe, maybe not)

Any injuries or problems? I have a head cold and was home sick yesterday. I'm hoping that I'll be better by Saturday!

Highlights from last week? Nothing too exciting, I had a busy day Saturday, but got up at 5:30 to squeeze my long run. I'm glad I got that done before I started feeling sick on Sunday

What do you do in the week right before a race? Any rituals? I haven't established any as of yet

What is your favorite pre-race/event dinner? How about breakfast the morning of the race? Favorite post-race meal? I don't really have any yet. This will be my first big event. Breakfast will be what I always have, 1 cup of coffee, oatmeal, and whole grain bread with PB.

DH and I are going out on a date night post-race to a Chinese place.

Bonus points: I just got a smartphone (Like a Garmin, I resisted for a while, and already wonder what took so long). Any recommendations for Android apps? I'm still in the dark ages with a regular phone.

What does your training schedule look like for the week? Cross-train, run 3, 4, and 3 miles, rest, run 2 (at least 3 ... 2 miles doesn't make sense to me), rest, and marathon.

Any injuries or problems? Phantom pains. This happens every time I get close to a race. I think it's just my mind playing tricks on me. Also, I had a strange marathon dream last night.

Highlights from last week? Just trying to survive taper madness.

What do you do in the week right before a race? Any rituals? Keep calm and carry on. I am trying to relax and keep it low-key. I was waaaaay too worked up before my last marathon. I watch Spirit of the Marathon a couple of days before the race. If I am traveling, I double- and triple-check to make sure I packed everything. Lay out all of my clothes/gear the night before.

What is your favorite pre-race dinner? How about breakfast the morning of the race? Favorite post-race meal? Dinner - chicken parm and pasta. Breakfast - same thing I always eat. Yogurt and a granola bar. Post-race - burger, fries, and a beer.

Bonus points: I just got a smartphone (Like a Garmin, I resisted for a while, and already wonder what took so long). Any recommendations for Android apps? One of my friends recommended a white noise app named Lightning Bug. It's pretty neat!

    Happy Tuesday!

What event are you training for/date? - Portland Shamrock 15K on Sunday + a half marathon in May.

What does your training schedule look like for the week? - loosely following my half training plan, but keeping the week pretty light so I'll be fresh for Sunday. Cross trained yesterday, 3-4 mile intervals today, 5 miles tomorrow, cross train on Thursday, 4 mile run on Friday. Rest on Saturday, 15K on Sunday.

Any injuries or problems? - my left calf/shin area has been kind of painful for the first few miles of every run. Not sure what's causing it, but it does get better after I warm up.

Highlights from last week? - 10 mile run, in the cold/wind/rain, but I did it!

What do you do in the week right before a race? Any rituals? - this is my first big race. Previous is a 5K.

What is your favorite pre-race/event dinner? How about breakfast the morning of the race? Favorite post-race meal? - Again, first time, but it's my son's birthday party the night before. Limiting myself to 1 glass of wine, some pasta & bread, & salad. Skipping the cupcakes. Planning to do oatmeal for my pre-race meal. After the run we're going to brunch. I'm usually not very hungry, so we'll see if I want to eat.

  • What event are you training for/date? Half Marathon 3-25-12, no longer training for Boston.  Sad

What does your training schedule look like for the week?

    M- rest

    T- 4-6 mile run outside!

    W- 5 miles AM, 3 miles PM

Th- rest or easy 5 mile run

F- 3 mile treadmill run (to test out new shoes)

Sat- 14-16 mile run w/ lots of walk breaks

    Sun- cross train, weights

    Any injuries or problems?

Highlights from last week? ran a 5K in 28:33, my slowest 5K ever! lol  I was happy that I was able to run it 27 weeks pregnant and still keep the time under 30 minutes.  Of course its 7 & a half minutes slower than my 5K PR but I am trying not to be so hard on myself.  i am running for 2!

What do you do in the week right before a race? Any rituals?  if its a marathon or ultra, I make sure to follow my taper plan!

What is your favorite pre-race/event dinner? How about breakfast the morning of the race? Favorite post-race meal? I don't do any special meals for anything that is a half marathon or shorter.  for a marathong me pre-race dinner is either simple pasta w/ chicken or pancakes w/ peanut butter, breakfast is a bagel/coffee/water, post race is whatever I am in the mood for.   believe it or not, I try to keep it healthy as I do not want to eat back all the calories i just burned

Bonus points: I just got a smartphone (Like a Garmin, I resisted for a while, and already wonder what took so long). Any recommendations for Android apps?

  • I'll play today! Apologies if the formatting ends up really weird, I claim newness.

What event are you training for/date?

Angie's Half Crazy Half Marathon in Houston, April 1

What does your training schedule look like for the week?

I missed my weekend long run due to rain, so trying to make up for lost time. 3 yesterday, 10 today, probably 6 tomorrow and 4-6 on Thursday, 13 on Saturday or Sunday

    Any injuries or problems?

    Nope!

    Highlights from last week?

Nothing particularly spectacular, just a really nice solid week. 29 miles at decent paces. Oh, and spring break. So I guess that actually was pretty spectacular.

What do you do in the week right before a race? Any rituals?

Not really. I don't think too hard about it until the night before. Just maintain whatever I planned.

What is your favorite pre-race/event dinner? How about breakfast the morning of therace? Favorite post-race meal?

I usually eat pasta the night before. I like some homemade tomato cream sauce with chicken.

Morning of, I stuff my face with a couple of those sugar-laden muffins from the bakery section of the grocery store.

Post-race meal - I like to treat myself to sushi that night. In the interim, anything. And everything.

Bonus points: I just got a smartphone (Like a Garmin, I resisted for a while, and already wonder what took so long). Any recommendations for Android apps?

My iPhone is full of shopping apps.
