Arizona recommendations??
We want to visit Arizona for 1 week. We're thinking of visiting Phoenix and Sedona and make it a day trip to the Grand Canyon. Are these 2 cities the best for a first visit to Arizona? Any recommendations for hotels/ things to do/ restaurants??
Re: Arizona recommendations??
Well, we enjoyed eating at Rustler's Rooste outside of Phoenix. I tried the deep fried rattlesnake and it was really good
We also drove out one day to Tortilla Flat, which was the last stop on the Pony Express back in the day. It's seriously out in the middle of the desert, but it was a neat little town, if you can call it that. There's a bar/restaurant/gift shop, ice cream parlor and a little museum. It was unique.
As for Sedona, we didn't do this, but I've always heard to take a tour with the pink Jeeps. Not sure exactly what it's called, but I'm sure it's an easy google. I've always heard good things about it.
Scottsdale is a nice little town to go shopping in. It's not far from Phoenix.
The Phoenix area and Sedona are great places to check out. What sort of activities are you wanting to do while you are here? Shopping, spa, eating, outdoors, etc?
If you like beer, a good place to check out Four Peaks Brewery in Tempe (they have a restaurant-only location in Scottsdale as well, but the Tempe one is the actual brewery and has better ambiance).
We did a Scottsdale/Sedona/Page/Grand Canyon trip in 2010. It was a lot of fun!
Sedona -- I highly recommend the Amara Resort. Nice place. A Pink Jeep tour is a "must do" in Sedona. We did the Broken Arrow tour. Tlaquepaque is a great area for shopping. There are some really nice hiking trails in the Sedona area. Our favorite was the Bell Rock/Cathedral Butte hike. Stop at the Sedona Chamber for ideas. The woman we talked to there was super helpful.
Grand Canyon -- I highly recommend an overnight here if you can swing it. There's too much to see and absorb to just do it in a day trip. Also, stay in Grand Canyon Village -- it's worth it! You have to book well in advance, though. We stayed at Bright Angel Lodge which is utilitarian, but the location really can't be beat. We hiked a portion of the South Kaibab Trail, which was amazing. Definitely do a hike if you're up for it.
Walnut Canyon National Park -- If you're into history, stop here on your drive between Sedona and GC. Very cool place.
Scottsdale -- We stayed at the Firesky Resort which was very nice. We ate a couple of good meals here -- breakfast at Scratch Pastries and dinner at Veneto Trattoria. Both were wonderful!
This. I totally forgot to list Four Peaks in another rec and I'm kicking myself. They have the best food and beer. Yummmmmm!!!
