If you are a migraine sufferer, does exercising bring them on?
I have been feeling pre-migraine pain lately the entire rest of the day after my workout. I am increasing my water and trying to eat more protein and it has stopped any full-fledged migraines coming on, but I'm definitely still uncomfortable. DH thinks maybe I should also increase carbs a bit.
Does anyone else have this problem? Any tips? TIA

I never had migraines until being in clinic in Med school. Stress, hypoglycemia, and lack of sleep brought on my migraines. Generally poor diet, hormones from menses can spark a migraines. Some doctors suggest giving birth to a child to normalize the hormones but I have actually met women who had a kid and the migraines did not go away.
Keep a diet log and see what you are eating daily to see if there are particular triggers. Coffee, red wine have been known to be triggers.
Exercise. Some people state they induce their migraines but if that is the case, this is not a typical Classic migraine. If exercise tends to trigger a migraine headache, you might want to see your doctor to see if there is anything else going on.
Chiropractic care. Studies have shown that getting a monthly adjustment can actually decrease migraine headaches. Look for a great Chiro in your area that can work with you on your migraines.

I have a few triggers for migraines - alcohol (ohmygodunfair), dehydration and overheating. Running inside on a treadmill gives me a migraine about 75% of the time because I just get too warm in a temperature-controlled environment like a gym.
I've tried to ward it off by drinking water during the workout or drinking extra before and after. I only have mild success, unfortunately. What works best for me is running outside with the breeze. I still have problems, but it's more like 10% of the time.

If I am not hydrated properly before I exercise and do not hydrate during exercise and replace lost electrolytes, I get an awful migraine-like headache.
What kind of workouts are you doing? High intensity? Are you replacing lost electrolytes or just drinking water? Sometimes too much water makes my headache worse.

Thanks, ladies. I'm going to try to really up my water intake before and after. And I'll also try the sodium!
Right now I'm doing P90X because DS isn't too keen on childwatch at the gym these days. I do it during DS's nap time (around noon) and usually have 16oz of water over the course of the day before I begin.
I see my PCP next month so I'll mention it to her then.
