Salty but Healthy Foods

What are the saltiest, but healthy foods you can think of? I really need more salt in my diet, but don't want to eat anything with too many calories or with too many carbs. I ate a can of salted almonds over 2 days, which I'm thinking is too high in calories. Plus, it only provided 12% of an average person's sodium needs per day and I think I need more than average.

    Mhmm...salt and pepper on my tomatoes, cucumbers, even raw squash.  Green olives are good and salty, not sure about the nutritional value in the rest of the olive though. 

  • Tomatoe juice, canned veggies/beans, popcorn (add the salt yourself), cheese (not low calorie, but yummy!). I have low BP and these are items I eat to get my sodium up... well and Lays plain potatoe chips, but those aren't healthy!

    If you eat salads, make your own dressing(s) and salt liberally. If you eat dairy, some cheeses like romano and feta are pretty salty (also good in salads and tossed with veggies). Brine things like chicken, turkey, pork loin in a salt solution - this makes the meats very tender and moist. A lot of recipes for brine include tons of sugar but I find the salt only + some spices is great; no need for sugar.

    Air popped corn and white potatoes taste like cardboard and usually need a good dusting of salt :) 

    I'd get a good quality salt, too. I don't know what grocery stores you have access to, but usually you can find a nice sea salt even in regular supermarkets. TJ's has Himalayan Pink salt in a grinder for $2. You might as well get some of the trace minerals that come with a better salt.

  • I get lightly salted dry roasted Edamame from Costco. I love it! It's 150 calories for a quarter cup I think....but it's higher in protein & lower in fat than almonds.

  • V8. I add a half or full cup of this to my diet a day for about 30-50 calories. Loads of sodium, which I need because I have low blood pressure. You can also buy the low sodium kind and add a few sprinkles of salt into it.
  • I love salty hardboiled eggs.

    They're not excessively salty, but they make a great snack food.

    Kelp?

    Nori?

    &c. 

    Ocean anything.

    Also, anecdotal evidence suggests that nuts can impede weight-loss. Salted seeds (brazil, sunflower) can be better snacks.

  • Nuts, hummus, and sometimes tortilla chips :)
  • Beef or turkey jerky.  These are my go to snacks for the 3pm hour.  Whole Foods has some good turkey jerky.

    This! Edamame with sea salt, natural peanut butter and soups are my main salt sources.
