BLW/solid foods folks

What'd you give as a first finger food?

Quinn eats really well, but Avery just blows raspberries for the most part (she'll eat at daycare; peer pressure maybe?). I want to try giving her finger foods (we planned on moving towards more of a BLW approach at home anyway).

I bought some puffs, but they're not there with the pincher grasp yet...

Re: BLW/solid foods folks

  • We didn't do BLW, but after puffs, we did banana and soft pears. Banana is great because it's super soft, albeit a bit hard to grasp at first.

  • I think one of the first things Josh ate was avacado...we had the puff's and some other stuff but he really liked the avacado

  • I could try avocado again. Its been a month since the puking incident that scarred me.

How did you cut up the bananas? I just picture a giant chunk ending up in their mouths :(

Quartered slices would probably work. I give Eli huge chunks now, but we started off small. You may need to help put it in their hands if they aren't able to pick up small pieces yet.

  • I did bananas and avocado in the mesh feeder b/c it was easier for her to hold...soft, mushy, slippery foods like that can be hard for them to pick up.  You can slice apples/peaches/cantaloupe/etc. and most veggies length wise, so they have a side to hold onto and a side to gnaw on and can easily pick them up.  You should steam the veggies and allow to cool first, but I think the fruits are fine washed and served as is.

  • you can also crush up cheerio's or puffs and sprinkle those on the outsides of bananas/any other soft slippery food to help them be able to grasp it ;)
