What vacuum do you use?

I saw a demo for a Rainbow last night (didn't buy it), but it sure made me feel dirty.  Ick!  I guess my Bissell isn't cutting it anymore, but I can't justify spending $2500 on a vacuum.  Any recs?

Re: What vacuum do you use?

  • Hoover Windtunnel Max (~$250).  I love it.  Easy to clean out, great suction, good accessories.  Only downside is that it's a little heavy but I was comparing it to an Oreck.

  • The rainbows are definitely amazing if you can afford one! My mom bought one when she got married 29 years ago and it still works like a dream! They don't make them like that anymore.

I use one from Wal-Mart but I'm not going to rec it because I'm not a huge fan of it. I can't even remember what kind it is. It eats my carpet.

  • I have a Dyson DC 14 and it works well for us.

  • I was looking at a miele this weekend and really liked it. I'm still deciding but dh wants a Dyson. Our limit is 600 so rainbow is out. Such a tough decision!
  • I just have a cheapo Hoover Pet vacuum but if I were looking to invest into a vacuum that I wanted to have more than a few years I would look at a miele over a dyson.

  • I have many cats and a dog so I have to deal with a lot of pet hair.  I vacuum every day.  My husband bought me this vacuum, Bissell 50c9 Heavy Duty, about 3 months ago and I love it.  We bought it at Walmart and although it is more expensive than your basic vacuum it is cheaper than a Dyson and I believe it works just as good.  I would highly recommend this vacuum.

  • I have an Areus Eluctrolux, which is similar in price to the rainbow.  It came with a 30 year warranty and lifetime bags.  I've had it almost 10 years now and its still great.

I had this vacuum, we only have 1 dog, but I killed it in less than 2 years.  First the hose went and then the spinning brush and then the suction altogether.

We've had a Dyson Animal Ball (the DC-41, the newer one) for 3 months and it is seriously disgusting what the old vacuum wasn't doing.  This one is easier to maneuver too- and much lighter.  Plus you can wash out the filters instead of replacing.

Highly recommend.  I found a BBB coupon that didn't exclude Dysons and it was $480 after tax.   Comes with a 5 year complete warranty, so if I kill it in 5 years, it is still <$100 of use per year, which is a pretty good average (and cheaper than the nightmare Bissell).  I am confident it will last longer based on the number of people I know who have had them 8-12 years and they're still going strong.

  • I love my Dyson. I didn't realize how easy the ball is to maneuver until I tried to use my mom's regular canister vac.
