Do you ever...

...just not want to spend time with people?

Our friends invited us over tonight for board games after dinner (we were originally invited to go to dinner with them, but that plan changed), and all I want to do is go home and put my feet up on the couch. I was away all weekend and got home last night around 8, and even though they live a 1 minute walk away (2 doors down), I just don't feel like seeing them tonight.

Also, we'll be seeing them this weekend anyways for the husband's birthday party. Today is his actual birthday, which is why they asked us to come over in the first place.

Andplusalso, because I thought we were all going out for dinner, I didn't plan anything for dinner tonight, so I am a little grouchy I now need to go grocery shopping and cook.

Am I just being a brat? lol

Re: Do you ever...

  • Not at all! I'm an introverted person, so it takes a lot for me to turn on the charm and want to be super sociable - it's just exhausting for me. I feel that way a lot! Can you compromise and go for a little bit, or stay for dinner but not board games? Sometimes after you get there it does end up being fun and you're happy you went. I'm the last person that is going to shame you for not wanting to go lol!
  • I feel like that all of the time...I like musgral's advice.

  • Well, the original invite was to all go out for dinner, but that was retracted today and she said they're having dinner alone, why don't we come over later to play games. I was counting on being home from dinner by 8:30 or 9, and they want us to come over at like 8. I'm not feeling it.

Plus, we didn't buy groceries for dinner tonight because we were counting on going out, so I have to go to the grocery store on the way home, then finish up my tax stuff and cook and eat.

    Wahh....I'm a brat. I accept it.

ALLLL the time...and I'm a super social person!

These days, especially given my crazy work schedule, it takes a lot for me to get out and do stuff. I'm just so tired. And getting somewhere at 8pm on a worknight? HELL NO. That might make me an old lady, but whatever!

Can you tell them 8pm is too late? Or that you're not feeling well/are tired? I'd be irritated that their plans changed at the last minute and now they expect you to change your plans.

  • ok, I have a headache, and when I posted before, it was right before I took a nap...

8pm is way too late. I hate starting things that late on the weekend as well. I don't think you're being a brat at all.

It's my personal opinion that actual birthdays should be for husband and wife, and group birthday stuff should be on a weekend. I would hate to ask people to take a weeknight to spend time with me, but maybe that's because I don't like to stay up late. Heck, I feel weird about going out to dinner with friends for my birthday in a few weeks because I don't want to feel like I'm forcing people to spend money (not on me, just in general).

That does suck that you didn't plan on dinner, and now you have to. That would be really frustrating.

  • We ended up making lasagna so I don't have to cook tonight or tomorrow. They actually ended up coming over our apartment instead and we played a board game. I won! It ended up being fun. I think my friend felt bad since she knew our dinner plans were messed up, so they just came over instead. It was nice of them because there was no way I was going over there last night.

That sounds like a nice compromise - at least she was aware of the inconvenience of changing plans. I had a friend that never seemed to be phased by inconveniencing others (which is why I said I had a friend).
