Just emailed the Boston Athletic Association

Requesting them to have my registration for the 2012 Boston Marathon deferred to 2013.  They will probably say no, but it was worth asking!  If not, I need them to let me know how I can get my race packet since I think I deserve my shirt that comes with the $150 registration fee. Even if I am pulling out of the race.  I will let you know what they reply with.

  • Good luck with that, Steph!  I really do hope they let you defer.  You're still doing such a fantastic job running.

  • I checked out your blog and first I have to say, congratulations on your pregnancy! :)  If you had to drop out of the race then that is a really good reason I would say ;)

Second, I really hope they will work with you so you can defer your registration until next year.  All that hard work to qualify should definitely count for something!!  Good luck, I will keep my fingers crossed for you!!

  • I'm sorry you have to defer/cancel, but I have no doubts you'll requalify! I saw the baby bump pic on your blog and you look great! Hopefully you will have a nice and easy 3rd trimester.

  • Bummer.  I'm sure you'll be back at it a soon as baby daisy is born :)

And I agree, you definitely deserve a shirt!

  • I'm so sorry you have to back out of Boston!  You absolutely deserve a shirt after all your hard work.  With your running skills, I'd bet you'll BQ again sometime in the not too distant future.  :)
  • I hope they let you defer.  Will your Dad still be running Boston without you (I think I am remembering correcting in that you qualified together)?

  • Good luck with that Steph.  Always worth asking.

That's the one change I really disagree with. You should be allowed the chance to defer at least once. Things happen! What if someone trips and twists their ankle theday before, it's all over? I can't imagine deferrals would affect their numbers for the next year that greatly.

I wonder if they'll see an uptick medical assistance this year due to people running even though they're not fit to do so, just so they don't forfeit their chance.

Either way, you'll be back an better than before. No doubts :)

  • I really hope they allow the deferral.

    Good luck!

Yes, dad will be running without me.  He has a friend who is running it as well so I am glad he has someone to train, travel and run with!  I wanted to go cheeer him on, but I can't fly and I refuse to drive 13 hours on my own!!
