NCR Sorry MIA...I am in Kindergarten

I am finally student teaching and in week 2 of 10.  I am in a kindergarten class with the most amazing teacher!  The kids are adorable and I taught my first lesson today and did pretty well.

The things they say continually cracks me up.  We had an author of children's book who lives near by come today.  She was telling the students about how she could turn pine cones into a whole fun story. A student raises his hand and says "Pine cones make me puke." I had to fight the laughter. There were so many cute/funny/random comments and we all loved them, including the author.

I am anxious to get to full day teaching because I am worried and want to see how I do. Then want a real job with a real pay check!!!!

I did get my new craft room and will post pictures sometime I promise.  I am just taking a short break from lesson plans right now.

  • so glad to hear you are doing well. Kindergarteners are so funny. you should keep a log of the funny stuff they say, you could call it "overheard in kindergarten"

  • Congrats on starting your student teaching.  My biggest piece of advice is to make sure you get your cooperating teacher to share with you EVERYTHING she learns this spring about the new common core curriculum.  Since 47 states change curriculums next year, principals are going to be looking for new teachers who are knowledgeable about it.  So take advantage of all the trainings your co-op teacher is getting this spring--make her take you with her, watch the training videos, get copies of the training materials, etc.  For Kindergarten, the LA/Reading is still pretty similar (with a huge focus on nonfiction text), but the math is changing focus quite a bit.  For other grades, the change is drastic!

    I have taught K for a REALLY long time :)  It's a crazy age!!

Thanks, there was actually a meeting about it last week before school and I went. They barely covered any of the information and it wasn't the first meeting. I will be sure to attend the rest.  Our school system did a few trial full day kindergarten classes this year and are opening it to anyone who wants it next year so I hoping to get a foot in. I am going to ask the principal to observe later when I get good because I figure that definitely beats an interview. Pray the kids do good that day lol.

My teacher is amazing! I have learned so much already. Any advice or help you have would be great! I will take everything I can get! I think you have a board I follow on pinterest with teaching ideas so thanks :)

  • Congrats on student teaching!

I ditto everything J-Love said about Common Core.  We're a pilot school for it next year and it's a huge deal, obviously.  I'm pretty excited about it though!

And K is great!  Enjoy it! :)
