What do you think would happen if he had done this on US soil to civilians here? He killed 16 people.
AF and Marines should be capitalized.
The man hasn't been executed yet. He still has to stand trial for his crimes. Did you not read the article you posted?
The man murdered 16 unarmed people, including children. What do you think we would do to him here? He is being tried by OUR military according to OUR laws. The military considers the intentional murder of innocents a crime punishable by death.
I am upset about his actions. I never said I dont think he shouldn't be held accountable, nor did i say his trial had taken place. But you have to be pretty...dumb?..to think that he wont be executed. And yeah, it does bother me. Murderer or not he is still a human being and i would much rather see him rot in a cell for the rest of his life than being killed. How are we any better than him if we just give him a lethal injection?
I have religious opposition to the death penalty, and I also believe it to be unconstitutional. Not everyone agrees with us.
And I'm sorry, who exactly are you calling dumb? The last American execution of a military prisoner was in 1961. I don't think it's beyond reason to think he might not get executed. And no one who has responded in this post is dumb, far from it.
ETA: And interestingly, the most recent addition to death to mil death row is an Airman, not a Marine or Soldier! Hmmmph.
what difference does it make which branch they are in? no branch is better than another. I'm not calling anyone here dumb. I think it would be dumb not to think that he probably will get executed although i am certainly hoping he doesnt!
I like Airmen just fine. But automatically assuming it's a Marine kind of grated on me. And I said I'm not pro death penalty. But I'm also not pro service members setting children on fire and killing their families, and there are consequences for that behavior, which everyone besides like Milton Mathis knows. My preference is that he serves a life sentence.
Sooo then what about that upsets you? Death penalty?
Sorry, didn't word this right. I meant, apparently to the Afghan government the Taliban killing innocent civilians isn't a big deal because they generally look the other way and do nothing about it.
No matter WHO kills innocent civilians, it's a big deal, whether it's a US Soldier or the Taliban. I don't appreciate the Afghan government's double standard on this.
Listen, I'm not all for the death penalty either. But he hasn't received the death penalty - he hasn't even been tried. ETA: If you murder someone and live in a death penalty state, or could be tried by the military (which allows for the death penalty), its gonna be a possible sentence... here is what the quote says "the shooting suspect would be brought to justice under the U.S. military legal code, which allows for the death penalty in some cases." You're coming across as if the verdict came in, sentencing is complete and he's tied to a post with a firing squad in front of him.
You started a post called "Not how I wanted to start my day" posted a link, and gave absolutely no qualifiers or comments or anything. Of course people are going to come on here asking you questions to clarify.
