My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding

I'll admit it, I'm addicted to this show. I find myself strangely fascinated by Gypsy and Traveler culture.

Anyone else admit to watching this show?

Re: My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding

  • YES.

Cracks me up how they "translated" the original British version into an American accent for the TLC version.

  • And, as someone with a fair complexion, this is a great reminder for people like me to go easy on the spray-tan.

  • Best show on tv :) Seriously, I love this show. It is so amusing.

  • It's dubbed here, which ruins all the fun of the accents, but I love the show.

  • Are there new episodes!?

I've never seen it. Gypsies are not my favorite people after one spit in my hair in the Moscow metro. Watching them safely from my living room might be interesting though.

Seriously? They translated it? Into what accents??

I love this show. I also love how they do sort of a weird ethnographic study of it. Like one week it was 'marrying outside of traveller culture', etc. I'm such a sociology nerd. Even for cheap trashy television!

The narrator was changed to an American narrator. And they had subtitles sometimes when the person was particularly hard to enjoy. I have been watching this season on Channel 4od and am enjoying it for the reasons you said, it is more in depth than before.

  • I always find it hilarious when they provide English subtitles for somebody who is speaking English!

I haven't had any interactions (negative or otherwise) with gypsies or travelers in my time in the UK, but a lot of my British friends have :-(      Yep, I think "safely from my own living room" is a good description.  And yes, it's definitely fascinating!!!
