What doctor would you see?

I am having tingly pain down the back of my left leg and at night the tingling is so bad that I lose feeling in my toes and it keeps me up at night.  I didn't want to see my primary care doctor since i know she's automatically send me somewhere else and that's 1 bill I'd rather not deal with, not to mention the time lost.  I've done what everyone else would do and looked online to see what it might be (Sciatica comes up quite often).  Would this be a nurologist or an orthepedic doctor?

Re: What doctor would you see?

  • Honestly, i'd see my PCP first - They can order any testing that needs to be done, and refer you out from there. That's the point of a PCP.

I work for a surgeon, and it's much easier if the patient comes with the workup already done. Otherwise, you are going to go to the specialist, they are going to have to order testing, and you are going to have to follow up with them.. it's going to be mulitple visits either way.

    just my 2 cents

  • I agree with PP, I would see my PCP first.  Good luck!!
  • I agree with first seeing your PCP. It could be number of things so going to either a Nurologist or Orthopedic Specialist if it is not necessary would cost more than going to your PCP first.

     Hopes this helps Smile
