What are some staples in your wardrobe?
Now that spring and summer are coming I am looking for some staple pieces that can be mixed and matched.

Re: Clothing Staples
Jeans. Always.
A black cardi and a white cardi that can be layered over various tops and tanks
flip flops and/or cute sandals
updated 10.03.12
Thick strap tank tops (that cover bra straps) that are longer than the waist of my jeans.
Dark denim with a little bit of stretch (I need a new pair of skinny jeans like this).
Good bras.
Spanx.
Sundresses in warmer weather.
Stand up for something you believe in.
ditto the jeans. Always.
Ditto the fat strap tanks - I like the racerback style. I have one in every color for spring/summer. Usually wear them layered.
a few pairs of capris - I have white, black, and khaki.
Shorts - Whichever style looks best on you. In same colors as capris - white, khaki, and black.
Various colored camis
Various colored v-neck tees (or racerback, I like v-neck better on me)
black and brown sandals that can be dressed up or down
I, too, am becoming a fan of the razorback tanks, especially now that Old Navy offers them in various, layering colors!

LOL.
Woo Pig Sooie!
I agree with fat strap tank tops. Old Navy has my faves here, and they're on sale right now: http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=79827&vid=1&pid=706081&scid=706081932
In addition to capris and shorts, one good fitting pair of casual pants (khakis or chinos or whatever).
DAMMIT >_<

Oh yeah, these too. Target has some really great colors right now that make for easy colorblocking outfits.

I'm on board with the things everyone else has said and will add just a couple things that I like having...
- A pair of plaid bermuda shorts and tanks that go with them (I have 3 pair and wear them all the time during the summer)
- a khaki/beige cardigan
- a nude/neutral summer sandal that can be casual or dressy
- awesome sunglasses
