Do you make copies of your credit and debit card info?
I always make copies of the travel documents and keep them in my suitcase. I also write down the foreign contact #s for my credit and debit cards but am worried about having the actual account numbers on a piece of paper that could just as easily get lost as my actual cards. What is a safe way to have that info in case I need it? Should I just leave that info at home and rely on DH (who is not going on my next international trip) to help if I need it? TIA!
Re: Do you make copies of your credit and debit card info?
that's a good idea- thanks!

We have copies of our passports that we usually try to remember to bring. I don't rely on having them stored in emails b/c we have been too many places without access to internet.
I write down the emergency numbers for the CCs though. I'm pretty certain you can at least put the account on hold without having the CC#.
No, mostly out of laziness.
I used to, though.
But I never remember where I kept the copies. I've gotten wallet/CCs lost/stolen. I just called the back, gave them my personal information, and they can pull it out anyway. You don't really need to know the actual numbers.
I just keep the emergency phone numbers handy -- in email if I'll have access to email, or on paper if I won't.
I am a pretty naive person, but even I would not feel comfortable keeping my credit card numbers written down on a random slip of paper or in an email account that could be hacked. If your cards get stolen, you'll be able to put them on hold without the account numbers -- they'll verify your identity through other means.
I'd call the issuers of the credit and debit cards you'll be using abroad ahead of time to tell them that you'll be out of the country. That can help prevent problems. (Though you don't have to bother calling Amex.)
No. The Internet is everywhere these days. If my card is stolen or compromised, I must be in a place where credit cards are accepted and therefore a place with at least minimal Internet access. I have inthe past just gotten the numbers from their web sites.
You don't actually need the account number to call it in as lost or stolen, I know from experience.

If I want to write down my CC number, I tend to write it in reverse order with no identifying label (or labeled as something else like a license number or a booking reference or something). It's easy for me to read it back, but unlikely that a random person would play around with the numbers enough to know what it was.
I scan the documents and store them in one of my accounts online. Also, I send the images to my phone, so I have them on my device (this is my solution to my no internet problem) My phone is password protected, so if my phone is stolen they don't have all my data.
I also leave a copy of my CC/Passport/Itinerary etc with my parents at home.
Hope this helps. I like the idea of writing down your account numbers in code! That is a great idea.
