Books (?/poll)

I've been hearing a lot of buzz (good and bad) about the book 50 Shades of Grey. Has anyone read it or plan on reading it? I'm really curious about so I think I'm going to try to get a copy this weekend.

For those who haven't heard of it here is a local news story that I just saw about it. http://kdvr.com/2012/03/13/racy-disturbing-novel-50-shades-of-grey-gains-large-cult-following/

Poll:

1. What are you reading right now?

2. Do you like it? Would you recommend it?

Re: Books (?/poll)

  • Just heard about that book yesterday. Not really up my alley, so I'll probably pass. But let us know how it is once you get your hands on it. :)

    1. I'm reading The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman

    2. So far, so good. Per the one-line summary that I had to write for the review website way back when: In this sweeping historical novel set on the ancient fortress of Masada, four dynamic women explore the female condition in the male realm of holy war.

  • I haven't heard of this book and while I like a bit of erotica every now and then, I think I'll give this one a pass based on the reviews on Amazon.

Right now, I'm reading a YA fantasy book about elves called Coexist.  It's alright, but I got it as a free download, so I'm not as irritated as I might have been otherwise.

  • I haven't heard of it.

I just finished Pandemonium (Lauren Oliver) last night. It's the second book of a trilogy. I liked it a lot - I loved the first book (Delirium) and wanted to read the next one as soon as it came out. Now that I have, I'm kind of regretting it, since now I have to wait for the third to be released.

Next on my list is to hopefully get back into The Red Tent.

  • I've seen a few posts around TK/TN/TB about that book, but I'll probably pass.

I'm still reading Dance w/ Dragons (5th book in the Song of Ice and Fire [Game of Thrones]) series.  I highly recommend the series.

  • That's the BDSM book, right?

    Poll:

    1. What are you reading right now? I've got 5 books on my kobo right now. I'm currently reading China Mi?ville's Kraken, but next on my list is book 2 of Patrick Rothfuss' Kingkiller Chronicle. (Pst, raynes, if you haven't read them, they're really great fantasy books - I really liked the first one.) After that, I've got Lev Grossman's The Magicians to tackle.

    2. Do you like it? Would you recommend it? I'm not sure about Kraken yet. I like Mi?ville in theory (I've only read one other book of his - Un Lun Dun), but I'm not convinced about the practice part yet. Rothfuss is fantastic, and I have no idea about the Grossman.

I've added it to my To Read list on Goodreads!

  • I'm currently reading book 3 of The Hunger Games. Yeah. It's just as amazing as everyone said it would be. This is the only set of books I've purchased since getting my kindle. Stupid library not carrying anything good. I think I might start the Outlander series next, but we'll see.

I've heard of the 50 shades of grey books. I'm interested and might start them in a few. I heard it was possibly fan fiction of Twilight, but nothing more from there. I'm all for a good erotica. I read a lot of Danielle Steel that's a bit racy and some Devereaux, which is also good. Why not? One of the moms on my BMB says the books are good, but definitely racy.

The series is awesome and you will love it.

  • I'm sludging my way through a book called Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier, historical semi-biographical about female fossil hunters in the early 19th century. It is really boring me to tears but I am anal about finishing books that I've started.

I also recently read The Last Child by John Hart. It was a crime thriller - not my normal genre but it was our last book club pick and I really liked it!

  • I haven't heard of that book.

Right now, I'm reading A Strange Manuscript in a Copper Cylinder, Before I Go To Sleep, and The Devil's Feather. I swear I couldn't find 3 books more different to read at the same time.

They are all pretty good so far.

Remarkable Creatures drove Josh nuts, he hated it. I still say verteberries once in a while just to piss off the paleontologist in him.

I'm glad I'm not the only one!!  And LOL at verteberries!

  • I too will probably pass on 50 Shades of Gray.

Right now I'm reading Voyager (the 3rd book in the Outlander series), and it's just ok.  I know lots of people love the Outlander series, but I'm just not that into it.  Like JaneGold, once I start a book, I have to finish it, and the same pretty much goes for a series.  I figure if I've invested time in getting to know the characters, I might as well continue.  I will probably take a break from the series once I finish it (probably while on vacation).  I've put Half Broke Horses (Janette Walls) and I am the Messenger (Marcus Zusak) on my Kindle.

  • I'm currently reading the Harry Potter series. I'm on the Prisoner of Azkaban which is the third one. I think I'm the last person I know to read this series.

You should line them up for when baby gets here. It's a great series, even if the story line isn't your thing.
