We are starting to plan a trip next year to Disneyland with our kids who will be 5 and 6 then. I am told you have to book hotels early and I have no clue as to which ones to consider. Any hotel recs, advice on how many days we should book and the trip itself etc. would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!
Why ask why, when you know you're going to get a smart-ass answer
Re: Disneyland, CA
The nicest hotel is the Grand Californian.
Book at least 4 days at the park. There are a few days that allow you to get in an hour earlier than the regular crowds if you stay at one of the hotels.
Definitely do world of color one night. It is spectacular.
Try to avoid June through August if you can as it can get really hot and the crowds are pretty bad. September is a much nicer time to visit although it will still be hot, there will be less people to deal with.
Get fast passes!

This is like "the nest" for Disneyland...it's amazing and will answer any and every single question you have! I just lurked there for about 4 months before my trip, and I felt like an expert by the time we went to Disneyland.

We just went in December of last year. There are lots of hotels within walking distance, but they are all kind of junky, and we prefer a nice, quiet, spotless, new hotel.
We stayed at the Hyatt in Garden Grove and loved every single thing about that hotel, we had a 2 bedroom suite and it was sooooo nice to have extra room. Everything about the hotel was A+. We also stayed 2 nights at Paradise Pier, and it was just "meh". They upgraded us into a gorgeous suite that overlooked the park, but the service from everyone was just ok. When we go back again, we will stay at the Hyatt again. It was a very easy shuttle ride to the park, very convenient, food on site was good, Starbucks in the lobby, etc.
I would say you will want 3 days minimum. We were there for 5 full days and we saw 95% of what we wanted to do in that time (but we also had to accomodate a daily naptime, I don't think you will have to worry about that).
Also I loved the book "The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland" it gives you a great basic rundown for what rides your kids will like and not like, etc.
I strongly suggest you go during the week, when kids are in school. It's so much easier to navigate the parks when it's not jampacked!
If you have any specific questions I'm happy to answer!
Wow, thank you both for all the details! I will for sure check out the links. I need to be an expert by the time we leave since I am the only planner out of the group ( extended family is also going). Really appreciate the help ladies, thank you!!!
Ditto disboards - that site is great.
We enjoy staying at the Fairfield Marriott. It's directly across the street from the park so we don't need to take a bus, and I think it's just as close (if not closer) than the on site Disney hotels. Plus, it's about 1/3 the price, so $$$ can be spent elsewhere.
Many families like staying at the Howard Johnson next to the Marriott as it has a great pool for kiddos.
Be sure to stop by City Hall and pick up 1st visit or birthday buttons!
We like to take a break midday when the crowds get busy and walk over to Mimi's Cafe. The food is much better than inside the parks, is about the same price, and you get refills on your drinks! Plus, it's much quieter and it's nice to get away from the noise for a while.
There's also lots to check out in Downtown Disney.
So Tasty, So Yummy
