Speaking of shoes, are Brooks where its at?

I've probably tried hundreds of shoes, I have to wear tennis shoes for work & stand on my feet all day, so btwn work & running, I go through shoes like water. Im not unhappy w/any of the ones I have had, but Im just looking for more options/suggestions.

I know everyone is different, every foot is different, & everyone has their own preferences, I was just curious! TIA!

Re: Speaking of shoes, are Brooks where its at?

  • I strongly suggest going to your local running store. They have so much knowledge and really took the time to look at my old shoes, the wear and tear on them and I tried on several pairs.

    It was well worth it!

  • Ditto PP.

Brooks are way too narrow in the toe box for me, but lots of people love them. I love New Balances, but a lot of people don't.

  • My husband loves brooks, so does my mom. My first brooks are in the mail to me now to try out, the pure flow. That being said, you should get fitted by a running store pro. You may need something entirely different!
  • I'm a huge Brooks fan, I have the pure cadence for short runs and adrenalines for long runs.  Like PPs said, you may love them or hate them.  DH swears by nike frees, but I can't stand them.  Everyone's different :)
  • Asics girl her. I'm on my 6th pair of the cumulus. Huge fan!

  • I am a huge fan of Brooks, I have worn the Defyance (now discontinued) and Glycerins.

The Defyance 5 are on the Brooks website.

I like the Defyance and the Launch. Like Brie said, they seem a bit more narrow than some other brands, which works well for me, but wouldn't work well at all for others.

  • I love Asics. I have a friend who swears by Brooks, another by Saucony. Go to your local running store though, because it will totally depend on how they fit on your foot.

  • I love my Brooks Adrenalines!! :). I wore Saucony when I first started running and they were ok.  Like everyone else said, a local running store will be able to help you find the perfect shoe for you.  Good luck! :)

Brie, you might like the Ghost. I have awesome bunions and enjoy a wider toe box as well...these fit the bill quite nicely...like a fine wine you might say.

  • I wasn't a huge fan.  I went through them faster than any other shoe I've ever had

  • It's also about how well your foot matches the shoe last (the form used to make the shoes) of a particular brand. Your local running store should be knowledgeable about that. I've been in Saucony, Nike, New Balance, and Ascis, but Saucony has treated me well over the years. Like you said, we're all different.

  • Echoing what everyone else said, we are all different. Brooks gave me Achilles issues, but I love my Mizunos!

Oh, good to know!  I ended up switching back to the Glycerin last time around.

  • Definitely go to a reputable store and get fitted.

My preferences are Nike or Saucony.  Brooks just aren't comfortable for me.  But I only found that out by visiting a store, trying on a lot of shoes, and even bringing home several pairs that in the end had to go back because they felt good in the store but a mile or two into a run suddenly just weren't right for me.

  • Interestingly, my DH is NOT a one-brand man when it comes to his running shoes. He changes brands just about every new pair. He ran 200mi in Feb, prob hit 100 in March (his 'season' ending/cycling in March. He swears he's taking off at least 2 weeks to only do yoga. We'll see. ADDICT Hmm)

He just bought these mizunos for March/his full on Sunday, but he wears Brooks, Addidas, Salomon, Saucony. Whatever fits well and strikes him for that quarter.
