What to do in Orlando?

We were supposed to leave Atlanta today and were going to split our trip up between St. Augustine and Orlando.  It's a long story as to why, but now we're only going to Orlando and will be there five nights instead of three.  We're staying at Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter resort (we originally were supposed to stay at the Fort Wilderness campground), and I'm sure we'll spend some time at the pool.  We're doing Magic Kingdom one day and really don't want to do more than one park.  We have a 21 month old.

What are some other things to do in the Orlando area that are fun with a 21 month old, especially things that aren't very expensive?

Re: What to do in Orlando?

  • Will you have a car to drive? We flew into Orlando back in January for a cruise out of Port Canaveral. We rented a car back and forth. We went to Kennedy Space Center, Cocoa Beach Pier, walked along the beach, Ron Jon Surf Shop, and a couple other beach shops. Those were all along the coast though, which is about 45min-1 hour drive from Orlando. But you could take a day to go that way. There was also an amuzement park I saw, and a zoo over in that area. Plus you could also go to the park and watch the big cruise ships come in/go out at a park along the port.

As for Orlando, we only stayed in Orlando the night before we flew home. We went to the Florida mall which is huge! If you (and the fam) like shopping, might be fun to check it out (or if you have a rainy day - which I hope you don't). We ate there that night at the food court to please everyone because they have a ton of different food.

  • Thanks! We're drIving there, so we will have a car.
  • Gatorland in Kissimmee

Orlando Science Center, 2 & under are free

Citrus Tower in Clermont - I think you can ride the elevator to the top - not much else to do in Clermont - Park Pals, but you can find a park anywhere in Orlando.

LegoLand in Winter Haven opened not to long ago (probably an hour drive from Orlando)

    Green Meadows Farm in Kissimee

Wunderworks @ Pointe Orlando on International Drive

There is one outlet mall off of Apopka Vineland by Disney, and another one at Oakridge Road & International Drive near Bass Pro Shops

Mall of Milenia is a nice(er) upscale mall.

Silver Springs - has a glass bottom river boat ride, and i think a few shows

  • The pp gave some great suggestions.

There is also a splash park and playground that pretty cool near Disney.  Here is a link: http://www.drphillips.org/node/49

Certain times of the year its free, other times there is a small fee.

They have indoor jump places (Monkey Joes) near the outlet mall on I-drive (Festival Bay).  Its around $5.00 for younger kids.

Legoland is just as expensive at Disney ($80 for an adult ticket at the gate - although you might be able to find discount coupons online) and with your childs age, she will not be able to ride many rides there so I would recommend doing a disney park or Sea World over legoland personally.

You could drive over to Clearwater.  Its probably 1-1.5 hours away.  Its a great beach.

There is also a zoo in Sanford FL (Central FL Zoo) or the Brevard County Zoo over near the east coast.  I recommend Brevard over the Central FL.

There are some various Go Kart tracks that she might like riding in with you guys.  My daughter enjoyed it around that ago.  THere are some on 192 right outside Disney property and also on I Drive (Fun Spot).

You might want to look into the Disney waterparks.  Its like $100 for an annual pass per adult and both the disney parks have a cute little area specifically for toddlers.

  • Super cheap, GORGEOUS and educational. Bok Tower Gardens (esp if you like music) in Lake Wales or Leu Gardens in Orlando. so lovely!!!

there is a boat tour in Winter Park that's a nice afternoon on the water.

  • We really liked the pool at PO French Quarter when we stayed. You can walk over the Port Orleans Riverside and use their pool too, if you want to change things up. Downtown Disney has Lego Store that kids love (my son was about your son's age when we went)! Nice thing staying at French Quarter is you have boat to Downtown Disney. They also have a section there towards the Christmas Store that has fountains that shout up the water, kids love that!
