Re: if you use/tried space bags.

  • I use them to store out of season clothes and love them.  If you store them under the bed be very careful because they can tear. You may need to replace them after a few years.  I just ordered new ones from Amazon and will be putting my winter clothes in them soon.
  • Used them once when I lived in a small apartment with minimal storage space (read: 1 small closet in each bedroom, no linen or coat closet, pedestal sink so no bathroom storage either).

I filled them up with blankets and off season stuff, sucked the air out and slid them under the bed. When I went to pull them out, we had to lift the bed to get them out. They leaked (apparently a common problem now that I've read reviews) and filled back up with air.

I dumped them in the recycling and found other storage methods.

  • I've tried them and don't care for them.  They leak way too much for how much they cost.  I've tried several different bags, sealed, sealed, and sealed again and it seems like they always fill back up with air.  It's a great concept, but they just don't work.
  • I use them to store extra blankets, etc. I have never had them leak, but if you overfilled them then they don't work as well. I store them in a spare closet.

  • I had some in my apartment. They were handy for storing cold weather clothes, but like others, they tore and I hated getting the vacuum all set up to suck the air out. I do, however, still have the "travel size" one that you just roll the air out and that's much easier to deal with. The bag is smaller (and seems sturdier), no fiddling with the vacuum, and I can bring more clothes on vacation!

  • i use them, but like everyone says they do tear easy. so be careful or it'll tear and leak. but i use them to put blankets and out of season clothing in. plus i have two others i use....my husbands family has lived in our house for 50 years and so there been clothing accumulated and will soon be picked up. but i decided until then, it can shrink and be stored in the garage and i wont have to worry about them getting dirty or in the way.

  • I've been told the hanging space bags don't leak.

  • I was working with a fixed amount of space when I moved so I used them then.  I also work in a very casual environment, but because I'm a lawyer I still need a suit from time to time.  I keep most (95%) of my business wardrobe in the hanging ones in the guest bedroom.

The key, as others have said, is not to overfill them, or they'll tear or leak.

  • I store my off-season clothes in the vacuum bags, but I stack them in clear plastic totes and slide them under my bed. I've had them for a few years now and have not had a problem with them.

  • I love them, too.  I especially love the Totes that they have with the huge built in bag.  I have 3 of them (different sizes). In the large one I have bedding, and in the other 2 I have the next bigger size of clothes for DD that she doesn't fit into yet.

  • I have a jumbo one that I keep spare blankets/sheets in.

I also have some other sizes that right now are folded and stored away in the closet. (I used them when we moved.)

  • Coats, blankets, sweaters, comforters, you name it and I space bag it.

I also have the travel bags and I can fit amazing amounts of clothes in a really small bag.

  • I hate the brand Space Bags. I bought in bulk b/c I loved the concept. Some ripped the first time I zipped them. They weren't full, so should not have had any problems. For those that worked, they eventually had a problem with not being sealed.

Zip Loc makes bags the same size. They don't have the vaccuum hole, but you can squeeze most of the air out. They have been great. Love them!

  • Love the space bag totes, only had one in about 20 fail me.  Hate the space bags.  MOST have leaked, and I used them properly.
