We bought our 1985 home with a pool in June, after much thought we decided to buy the home warranty. Just this week they are replacing the pool pump, in July it was the filter. With these it has paid for itself. Our house Had never been updated and from the looks of the inside/outside we knew they didn't care for the pool like it should be.
I know a lot of people have horrible stories about HI, but for us we call & a day and sixty bucks later it's replaced.

Old Republic
For some things we just fixed ourselves, like the garbage disposal, we didn't want to spend $60 for them to come fix it, we spent $100 and put a new one in. But pool... It's been pretty good to us. Oh, and the AC is oldddd so we've decided to extend it another yet, just in case it goes out in the summer.
If you don't mind saying, could you tell me how much you're paying per year? Our seller purchased a warranty for us and I think it was around $500.
Butting in.....Our original policy was $355 (with AC coverage added), and a $55 co-pay for any repair. We've renewed for the past few years for that same amount. Next year it's going up to $390 with a $60 co-pay.
We've more than gotten our money's worth so far - water heater blew up, broken pressure valve, and major electrical issues.
With the pool added it was around $500, not sure what it will go up to this year, however we're hoping to have the AC covered when it burns on the first 103 day. (The AC tech said he thinks it will first time it runs hard).
We brought in a new stove/fridge/double oven, so none of that is covered. The heater is new, and now the pool is up to date. I'll chance not getting anything out of it next year if the AC doesn't go. I think it's worth it. damn old house
We got ours through American Home Shield and have had to call them once (so far, we just moved in 2 weeks ago). The contractor didn't come or call us the next day so I called back to American Home Shield and they waived the service fee, which was really nice and unexpected.
The seller paid for ours and if IIRC it was about $600. We got the highest level package as the house is 22 years old and there were some issues that it seemed like the previous owner didn't do much about.
