sorta H&F - BFing and weaning

Some might consider this TMI, so consider yourself warned

How long after you weaned were you still able to manually express milk?  We weaned over Christmas and I'm still easily able to hand express milk.  After struggling with low supply, I find this ironic.

Re: sorta H&F - BFing and weaning

  • I'm still nursing, so this doesn't come from personal experience, but I have read that it is totally normal to still be able to express milk up to a year after weaning.

I have to say, I'm anxious for that to be personal experience. 15 months and I'm starting to be ready to be finished!

  • To be honest, always. I weaned DD #1 when she was 9 months old. I was able to squeeze out a drop or two for years after, and throughout my pregnancy.

But I'd say it took a good year for it to go down to just droplets.

  • I was pregnant right after weaning DD 1, so I always still had a little milk. With my son I think it was about 6 months or so. I had low supply with my first, and almost an over supply with my son.

  • Do you think this is relative at all to how long you breastfed? I will stop pumping ( I EP) in two weeks, for a multitude of reasons, but my daughter will only be six weeks old.

  • I stopped nursing DS #2 when he was 14 months old (about 4 months ago) and I still get the "tingle" feeling of letdown and leak a little when I hear a baby cry.  It doesn't even have to be MY baby crying, any baby will trigger it.  lol.
  • Definitely not weird!  I weaned almost a year ago and still see drops in the shower sometimes.  Crazy, right?
  • Until I got PG again....10 months after I weaned.  I swear, that milk just wouldn't dry up...it was holding out hope that I would start nursing again!

  • I didn't have this problem at all after weaning my DS, who bfed for 14 months.  I still leak sometimes and can manually express a few drops now after weaning DD in Oct after a year of nursing.  It kind of weirds me out, but I hear it's normal :).
