I want to get my personal training certificate online, have u?

Hey have you got your PT certificate online or know of somebody who has?? Can you recommend a website? I have a few in mind but am curious about other peoples opinions.

  • I've talked to some directors and most agree that getting certified with no real interaction usually leads to a sub par trainer. I have a list somewhere of the more recommended groups to go through. I'll post if I can find them. One I remember is acsm

  • I'm currently studying through Penn Foster.  While I would have preferred to get some hands on work, there is just no where in my area that offers a course.  I had the option to drive to Philly every weekend for a year to study down there.   That's a 2 hour drive and with the price of gas, I'd go broke.

I'm just making the best out of my course.  Not cheating on the tests and putting a lot of time and energy into studying.  Once I complete this, I'm going to take the Sports Nutrition course as well.

  • If by online you mean you pay money and take a test online, then no. No reputable gym or company will accept that.

The most basic certifications are ACE and AFAA. They could probably get your foot in the door. Most commercial gyms look for NASM. NSCA is geared toward strength and conditioning coaching. ACSM is very clinically focused and very challenging. It's a great certification to have, but probably very difficult to earn for someone with little or no education or experience. I'm an RN and an exercise physiology grad student and taking the ACSM exam today.
