I never put ANY thought into this. Has anyone else?
(Oopsie - posted this on the Bump by accident!!)

No... have they never shared a washer and dryer with roommates in college? Or with an entire dorm for that matter?
I don't get it. The stuff goes in there to get clean... If you believe detergent kills your germs why would it not kill someone else's germs?
whaaaaat. No. It's a washer for chrissakes. It washes things.
That reminds me of an episode of RHWONJ where Theresa makes a comment about thinking it's "gross" to live in a house someone else previously had lived in. That's why she built a huge mansion they couldn't afford on Joe's $79K/yr salary.
WTF kind of re-re thinks that? Its a WASHER and the damn dryer practically sterilizes stuff when it gets hot.
Its not like someone took massive watery sh!t in there and left it for three months, I'm sure. Grow the eff up.
WTMF.
I might question an obviously old, rickety washer/dryer for the fire hazard the dryer could produce, but not because ZOMG UNDEEEEZ!!!1!!1!!!

Bleach and hot water cycle. Problem solved.
Really, the only time I've ever had an issue with something like that crossing my mind was when I lived in the dorms during college. Then I would pony up the extra quarters to run a bleach cycle through the washer and an extra rinse before I put my clothes through. This only happened a couple times though if the washer smelled funky prior to my using it.
First world problem lol.
This is someone that must have never lived in a dorm or had to use a Laundermat. Like a PP said, first world problems
For swears.
People are RIDICULOUS about germs. Over-santizing is detrimental to our immune systems. There's a reason our kids are allergic to everything and always sick.
AND. That aside. I agree with whoever said it's a fooking washer, the point of it is that when the cycle is done, the things in it are CLEAN. Dipshiits.
Did anyone else think of this episode of Friends?
Joey: Hey, why can't we use the same toothbrush, but we can use the same soap?
Chandler:: Because soap is soap. It's self-cleaning.
Joey: All right, well next time you take a shower, think about the last thing I wash and the first thing you wash.

This is like not wanting to use a bar of soap that someone used.
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
I read "germs" as "sperms" It was the highlight of my day.
It has crossed my mind what other people have washed in our washer and dryer but it doesnt bother me one bit. I am not skeeved out by it or anything.
I am somewhat of a germ freak but that is also because I have seen some pretty nasty sh!t come off doorhandles, faucets and whatnot. The joys of being a microbiology major with a lot of immunology tossed in there.
Uhm, this makes no sense. I assume she stays in hotels, uses public bathrooms, and lays on gynocological tables, yes?
Besides, it's a washer. It's very function is to clean.
