I had to do a well woman exam at Planned Parenthood recently so I could get approved to do a special medical thing for my OCS package. I went to PP because it was faster than getting in at the Naval Hospital. PP was on the phone with Tricare making sure that they coded my visit correctly. I just got a message my claim was denied because that PP isn't an authorized provider. I called Triwest to see if I needed to do anything to get PP to provide the proper authorization info. Here's what Triwest Tim said, "Let me explain it to you, it's a very confusing code [it's not]. It would be like if I, Tim, saw a neighbor child fall out of a tree and break his arm and I fixed it with duct tape and tried to charge Tricare. They'd say, 'Oh no Tim. I don't think so. You're not an authorized provider.' "
I said to Triwest Tim, "Uh. No Tim. Planned parenthood employs doctors, I don't think you're a doctor. In the future, please don't compare you applying duct tape to the free medical care that PP provides and provided me for the 6 years I was uninsured. Now what do *I* need to do to resolve this, anything, or will PP take care of it on their end? "
I was polite in tone, but I'm annoyed. I get that he has to tell people very simple and basic stuff all day every day, but I didn't ask for an explanation of the code, nor did I care for that comparison.
Re: Oh Triwest CSR
This is so true. When I worked in referral management we would often call Triwest for patients when they had issues. I would seriously talk to one person, hang up, call back and talk to another and get a completely different answer. They have reference numbers (to log in the conversation) related to the calls. I would ask for it so when/if you have to call back, the new Triwest rep. can refer to whatever BS you were previously told.
Soooooooo true.
