Another crochet question - tying knots

I'm noticing that the knots I tied in some crocheted blankets are coming apart. I wasnt very confident in them to begin with and am disappointed. I'm about to start a new blanket and want to make sure I do it right this time. I would appreciate any tips on how to properly tie knots and make sure it doesn't come apart. Even links to YouTube videos you found helpful?

Re: Another crochet question - tying knots

  • What knots are you tying?

I only ask because I never tie any knots in any of my crochet (unless it's fringe on scarves) and I've never had problems with anything coming undone. Instead in the last two loops of the stitch where I need new yarn or I'm changing colors, I pick up the new yarn and then I weave in the ends - maybe I leave about 8 - 10 inches of yarn and weave 6 inches one way and then weave back in the other direction so the yarn overlaps where I've weaved before. Does that make sense?

The Crochet Me! blog has a ton of fantastic tutorials.

  • Tying knots in crochet or knitting is a big no-no, for exactly the reason you're experiencing.  The question is, where/why are you tying the knots?  To change colors?  To start a new skein of yarn?  There are different methods for doing each.

Here's one page explaining how to do it, but you can find lots more if you Google or search on YouTube.  KnittingHelp.com also has some videos showing interesting ways of joining skeins of yarn such as spit-slicing and Russian join.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball
