DH and I have decided not to buy a house right now. We were so excited about it, so it's disappointing and a little bit frustrating. Our reasoning is that right now we are looking in a price range that we can afford on just his salary, but I'm graduating in May and will (hopefully) have a job sometime in the near future, and our budget would go way up once that happens. The houses in our one-salary budget are pretty nice, but we kept seeing houses that were priced just a touch higher that were waaay better. So we decided to wait until we get that second salary. We found a rental already, so that's set, but I was soooooooooo ready to be finished with renting and moving. And now we're dragging it out further.
I know it's the smart thing to do. When I first posted here, in fact, you all said that we should rent first since we're moving to a new city. It's just so tiring to think about moving and settling into a new apartment, and then packing up 6-8 months later to move again. ::sigh:: Making responsible decisions is no fun.
Re: Not Buying - Disappointed.
Sorry you have to wait, but it sounds like you're making a good decision.
Good luck in the future!
Sorry, you can't buy a house now. I think its a really good idea to get to know the area first though. You might change your mind on what neighborhoods you like the best. Also, I don't know what your area is like but we have been house hunting for over a year. I wish that instead of waiting it out in our condo we just had moved into a rental for this past year.
