I lurk a lot but am really trying to push myself towards my goals so here I am...
I started running beginning of Feb & am to 2mi/3x a week plus lots of lifting. I've never ran a race and was going to start with a 5k at the end of June then our region's big half in Oct.
Today I found out about the Zooma Annapolis 10k/Half in June and was going to do the 10k. A friend mentioned I should just go right for my goal & do the half. I'm sure I'd be run/walking it but it just made me pause over the distance.
Do you think I could *safely* train for a half in 11weeks?
Re: Opinions please
I think it's a better idea to wait and do the half in October. Yeah, you COULD probably train for a half in 11 weeks, but I think that as a new runner you run the risk of getting injured from doing too much too fast.
No need to rush. Half marathons will be around forever.

no I do not. you're only running 6 miles a week right now.
and I did not enjoy zooma annapolis. so I don't think you're missing much.
I agree with everyone else.
Completely off topic, but our sons have the same name! That's the first time I've seen someone with a LO who had the name Jeremy. It's mostly just older people.

So I registered for the 10K. I've read its super hilly so that was a big factor.
Curious...why didn't you enjoy it? I've never ran a race so I'm not sure what to expect.
it is hilly. and it was crazy hot that day. both of those are expected in annapolis in june though. also, they may have changed some things. most of my issues are related to poor planning/execution. I think I ran the first zooma annapolis?
a) it was thunderstorming that morning. pouring rain, lightening, everything. which happens, whatever. but there was zero communication from the race directors re: whether we were a go/no go/delayed. in the abscence of lightening I wouldn't expect to hear from them. and I kind of disagree with the decision to start a race in the middle of a thunderstorm. seems unsafe.
b) there was an out and back on the half course that was on a really narrow (also flooded) trail. way too many runners for the course they had planned. it was really hard to pass, even running single file both directions.
c) the half course is point to point so you have to bus it back to the start/car area. the start and finish aren't that far apart but IIRC the way the course was set up made it tricky to walk back to the start. like you had to cross the course and a highway or something.
d) I was told there would be cupcakes. they ran out of cupcakes. I was in the first half of finishers so this just seems like poor planning if they run out of cupcakes before half of the people even have one.
I ran the first year too. All these things! I don't mind hills, but not getting my cupcake pisses me off, lol.

Agreed on both counts. The course is awful, stick to the 10k.
the zooma race series was dead to me after they did not produce my cupcake. true story. I'll run in lightening, but no cupcakes and we're through.
I agree with everyone else. Wait until October for your half.
I'm going to take a guess and assume you are running in the Baltimore Running Festival? It's a great course, but make sure you train for the hills. Mile 6 is brutal!
I'll add to the OT as well
My oldest DS is Jeremy, but I could also be considered "old" by board standards and my son is 16 y/o!
