A question regarding proper behavior during rush hour traffic

For my own peace of mind, please take my poll.

Re: A question regarding proper behavior during rush hour traffic

  • I get yelled at all.the.time. by my mother of all people for getting in my exit lane too early.  I'm sorry, you miss a few of those suckers on the PA Turnpike and you learn!  I've been through the school of hard knocks where the next exit is 50 miles away and I'm trying to make it back to college in Virginia.

I'd be one of the tools in the right lane.

BUT I can also tell you that I would not let someone stopped and trying to merge in front of me.  F that, I hate dbag drivers.

  • I had that happen on my way to LAX. I signaled and signaled, but no one would let me in the DB's. So I just missed the exit and made the turn around. It was a PITA, but I am crazy about safety in the car. I would rather make the turn around then potentially get rear-ended by the crazy people on the high way.

  • I usually get in the right lane w/ plenty of time of the exit, but sometimes I'm irate and don't want to wait so I will do something like this. If I can't get in, oh well I just take the next exit. It makes me pist if someone tries to cut in front of me though when I have been waiting to get off at an exit.

I also get pist when there is an arrow that says "Right (or Left) lane closed ahead" and people drive all the way to the end where the lane closes and cut in. I get SOOO ANGRY over this.

    ME TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I generally get in the exit lane with plenty of time to spare, but I won't lie... I've cut in down the line a few times like a diick when the opportunity presented itself.

  • As you can probably tell, the middle option happens with regularity around here.  Yesterday I encountered a particularly egregious example of it - some stupid lady came to a dead stop in the middle of the highway because she was too important to wait like everyone else.  She's really lucky I had an inkling she was going to do this, otherwise I would have slammed into the back of her car at 70 mph.

She also had a baby seat in the back of her car.

I laid on my horn for a solid minute (I couldn't go around her because now I couldn't safely merge into another lane from a dead stop), but she just sat there until someone finally let her in.  I hated that someone relented - they just reinforced her bad (and hella dangerous) behavior.

This is about where I'm at on this.

  • This is one of my biggest pet peeves.  They recently opened an overpass going straight from the freeway to another one so you don't have to sit through 10 signals.  Well, now because of people trying to cut in line it has screwed up traffic even worse.  Regularly, the 2 right hand lanes are now at a stand still because of all the jackasses trying to cut.  Talk about dangerous.  I just take the old exit to avoid the whole nightmare.

Also, when they were building it, they had the right hand lane of the parkway closed off. I can't tell you HOW many people would wait till the last second and try to cut in.  Call me a B, but I planted my tahoe in the middle or both lanes. Sorry, if I have to wait, so do you.

  • Agreed - this is a pet peeve of mine.

A couple weeks ago this happened to me.  I was already in the far right lane, of course, and I see a huge truck coming up on the left.  Just as I expected, he tried to cut in front of me.  Idon'tthinksomuthfukka.  I refused to let him in.  He leaned on his horn for a solid minute, as he cut in behind me.  Yeah, that's a real smart move, guy, now I get to control how quickly you exit this ramp.  I mean - I was just making sure I gave the guy in front of me plennnnnty of space... ;-)  As soon as we got to the bottom of the ramp, he jumped the solid white line into the left lane, which was also merging traffic, only to get stuck there, about 10 cars behind me.  I laughed my ass off the entire rest of the way home.  Good job, buddy.
