Is this a cheesy BD gift?

BF's birthday is Monday, and mine was last week. We weren't really going to do anything gift-wise, but after a conversation we had last night, I decided I wanted to put together a little basket for him for my house that has his "stuff" in it, like his brand of shampoo, body wash, deodorant, razor, a toothbrush, etc., so he doesn't have to drag his stuff with him when he comes to spend the night.  I don't want him to feel bad for not getting me a gift, because that's what we'd decided, but I really want him to have this stuff so it's easier on him to come here. WDYT?

Re: Is this a cheesy BD gift?

  • I don't think it's cheesy, and it's totally something I could see myself consider doing. But I think sometimes guys can take these things the wrong way and you guys did decide against gifts. Maybe you could clear a drawer for him and say "hey I know it's a pain lugging your things back and forth. You're welcome to keep anything here that you'd like."
  • I wouldn't do it but I would let him know he is welcome to keep somethings at my place. Giving a gift after you have made a rule for no gifts is confusing.
  • I wouldn't give it as a "gift" but I would just put it all in your bathroom and let him just see you bought him stuff for your place.

  • i don't think it's cheesy, it's really thoughtful.

but i wouldn't give it to him as a gift since you guys decided not to exchange them.

  • I actually did this for F after we'd been dating a while and he loved it. So, I think it depends on how much you know your audience. It can be a really sweet gesture if he's the type of person that would appreciate it.

  • Well, we were talking about the whole bringing-a-bag thing, and he said that he'd lost his razor in the transition and couldn't find it, so I said he could leave anything here that he wanted, and he was receptive to that, so I think he'll like it, but then again, I'm not a man, so how would I know? lol

I think him being receptive to that suggestion is a good clue that he'd like the gift. I knew that F would like it because about a week before that he asked if it would be okay to leave a toothbrush at my house and when I said yes he had this weird smile on his face.
