Hawaii anyone?

We might be pcsed there. We have 2 dogs, does anyone know how the move works with them? Some people have told me it costs alot of $$ and they have to be quarantined. Any information to calm my nerves would be lovely!

Thanks!

I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.

  • We are in Hawaii, but I moved here about a year prior to us getting married, so no PCS experience. All I can say is get your dogs things squared away ASAP so you can avoid any quarantine time here. I'd also recommend looking into Island Pet Movers to assist you if you do end up moving here, I've heard amazing things about them and plan on using them when we move with our dog!

So I can avoid quarantine? How so? Just make sure they are up to date on their rabies and other shots?

  • In order to avoid the quarantine they need to be up to date and get a rabies titer(they just draw blood and send it off to a lab to make sure the vaccine worked) and then 120 days has to pass.  So if the 120 days passes before you move then you can just take them home straight from the airport.  We didn't have enough time when we moved so we left our dog and cat with my parents for one month in order to avoid the quarantine.  We then had them sent as cargo.  Everything went really smooth for us but it was a lot of paperwork and very stressful.  I suggest going to a vet on base if there is one close, they helped us out a lot and it was quite a bit cheaper.
  • Yep, exactly what sarita said.
